Simon Thomson
our apprenticeship scheme is by far the best pay in any UK industry plus we are having no issue recruiting -
if you are seeing something different please drop me a line -
based on exit interviews -
the issue we have is that new recruits get a very poor start -
given the worst duties, have limited if any training, poor relationship with the manager/team -
and therefore get overwhelmed very quickly -
our pay is very good, even considering the upfront £bonus that are paid by others -
different problems to solve here -
based on what we are told…

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

No issue recruiting?
...wasn't there an excuse before somewhere about being unable to recruit?

The issue is not recruiting because any one that sees the wage and is paid less tries to join. But then they realise it is a lot harder than they expected and they are not given an easier initial ride that they should be given so just leave or look for something else.

Finally they're getting the message - but what are they going to do about it?
And if people (not just newbies) are not trained correctly RM's holy grail (for this month) of improving quality
is not going to be achieved.

Message to Simon
There should BE no 'worst duty' in the office
They are all supposed to be equal remember?
That was what we were sold as 'revision' ( and purpose of PDA actuals ) and lo and behold.......the worst duties got even worse
Rather than shoehorn new starts into 'easier' duties ahead of long serving posties who have did their time and put up with the donkey work when THEY started - why not actually make every duty as equal as possible and manageable within contracted hours? Is that too much like hard work?

If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
