IHR after only 3 months sick

Hi, I've only been on the sick for 3 months and my manager has suggested IHR. I spoke to occupational health a couple of weeks ago and they have advised me not to return to work for the foreseeable future.
Is it right, that after a relatively short time on the sick, that IHR has been offered? I honestly thought it kicked in after a lot longer on the sick,? Is this unusual?

I'm "repairable" but because of back logs in the nhs system, it could be a month or a year, before I get treatment/operation. Don't particularly want to go but I'm 61, so I will probably take it. Its just seems a little early down to go down the IHR route but, yeah, I suppose they don't want me sitting on the sick another 9 months or so?

If your condition, if treated correctly, allows you to make a full recovery so that you can perform your current duty, i believe they shouldnt be asking if you want IHR. If they do offer it only you know if IHR is right for you financially.

I had a face to face with Dom today and it seems that they are now not going to offer me IHR. The Dom says that after speaking to HR, I'm not suitable for it
I'm just a little baffled tbh because I honestly thought that it was occupational health that were consulted, not HR? As side note, Dom is now saying that, even though I have long term sicknote, that I now have to "proove" that I'm actually trying to improve my health myself, so that I can return to work on light duties etc . So RM have gone from starting the ball rolling for IHR on Tuesday, to making vieled threats about forcing me to return to work nd/or stopping my sick pay because I'm not "cooperating" with the company. TBH, I honestly feel like resigning, I'm so disillusioned with it all!!!

Don't resign. As long as you have a contract, you're getting paid. Can you contact Occ Health yourself to find out the score? That's what I'd do. Good luck.

Don't resign. As long as you have a contract, you're getting paid. Can you contact Occ Health yourself to find out the score? That's what I'd do. Good luck.

You have been cooperating,have a sick note and spoken to occupational health who advises not to work.
You must Not return to work against advice
If your manager is making threats of stopping pay,file a Grievance with HR because they he/she have no grounds to make these threats.
As previous poster says depends what occupational report states, but I smell a rat.

Sounds like the DOM is hoping you'll resign and save the office budget 20 grand.

Every time you have to speak with the management staff make sure you're not alone and it's done face to face if possible. That way you've got a witness if they start to play silly buggers then deny they said something in the first place.

Thanks for all the replies, it's appreciated. I've been really down this weekend, as I feel I'm being pushed out without any recompense . In the 21 years with RM, I've only had one sickness and that was when I was rushed into hospital for surgery. I've gone into work with all sorts of ailments, really struggling at times but got on with it. But now, when I really need the support, my DOM has basically said I have to try and return to work in some form. In my current health, I simply cannot even consider returning to work and, until I see the specialist for treatment / surgery, there is zero chance of doing so. I naively thought my previous record would count in my favour but, sadly, its not even been considered. I'm totally disillusioned about it all tbh but it's made me realise that hard work and dedication gets you absolutely nowhere when you need help!! I'm speaking to my union rep tomorrow, as I've decided I'm not going to take this bullshit without a fight.

Unfortunately, years of service tend to go unrecognised ,now you are are just a number and your manager wants to squeeze as much productivity out of you regardless of stress it may cause you.They also will lie through their teeth and bullshit you with threats of stopping pay.As long as you follow the rule of remaining in contact,attending occasional face to face meetings ,their is little they can do if your GP has issued a not fit for work note.

A telephone conversation with occupational health is not a Physical Medical Assessment and can not override a fit note.

You need to mend,do not resign ,look after No1 and do not go back until you feel fit enough.
If your manager keeps giving you grief, causing you anxiety ,then maybe another talk with GP will help with an anxiety sick note.

What you really need now is support from Union. Hope he/she is not in the DOMs pocket for favours rendered like our Unit rep......
