RMCtv : Managers? DILO? : Can you relate to this post?

Post by POSTMAN »

DOM

I was asked recently to comment about DILO in a sector meeting and my response was, I like it, I like the principle of it but please tell me where you have taken the work from me so I have time to focus so much on the team and customer(2 very important areas of focus)

I have had a few conf call taken away, a few RCAs, and a few emails. But where are the thousands of hours we talk about been taken from in delivery world please? DILO if I am honest is one plan re wrapped and not invented.

I have embraced DILO as I did one plan and world class mail and will continue to whilst I am a DOM. I still have to deal with systems that crash, run slow, pack up half way through. I still have to run the NPI justifications system. Still lots of can I and permissions to do things in my power, the list goes on. I made lots of suggestions at the beginning but have yet to hear back or see those improvements to our day.

We are still handling to many repeat tasks and the PMT veh fault proces is one of them, it’s archaic and time consuming when we have a perfect M5 booking tool that needs to better utilised.

The biggest part if not most of mine and the line managers day is taken up with dealing with staff sickness, vacancies, cut offs, veh breakdowns, other fleet issues and then trying to plan for the next day.

I am currently doing many 10,11 and 12 hour days just to balance the work. Again like most DOMs I want my office to succeed, I want DILO to flourish and give us that time, but we must stop ramming home that we have had hundreds of hours taken off us in work load when it is just a number grabbed from the air, if I am honest.

We still spend far to much time locked to our computer and the need to accelerate the deployment of tablets should be done faster than electric vans for it to show a real benefit

When I said the opening comment the reply I got was, in all honesty your workload will increase in time with responsibility comes accountability.
I get that and I understand that but let’s make minds up please, we are either in charge of our offices or we are not and still have too many departments getting us to do things so they can pat their own tummies.

Appreciate the need to perhaps take the piss out of 'them' but am very interested in managers' responses to this.
PM or email me in complete confidence if needed.
Remember 'they' are watching, could be useful.

With DILO coming in ive seen no improvements. Saying that though my manager is always spending alot of time on shop floor - mainly as he has 2/3 walks to prep daily. Was even told by another DOM that its pretty much useless and he seemed very unimpressed by it

Sad really that even when a DOM highlights the issues with Simon's poor idea, the want to succeed and the need to succeed, yet eff all is done to allow a DOM to change anything. Consequently this just causes the DOM to pass the buck down the line as they can't address issues and that eventually ends with us the posties.

So DILO is just solidifying the toxic culture that continues to erode any chance of RM succeeding when the CV parcel boom eases up.

I think everyone is missing the point.
It has saved over a million hours (possibly each and every day) for every DOM so they can focus on building the team.
These are truly wonderful days to be alive.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

No one in delivery gives a s**t about DILO, ONE PLAN or WORLD CLASS MAIL for that matter. Managers are crap, the revision proves they are crap.

To all staff, work your hours and go home. Leave the s**t for the managers to deal with, that's what they are overpaid and underworked for.

Ops Manager

under DILO it was my understanding DOMs would get far more trust to make business decisions to run their unit to ensure we ensure we deliver excellent customer service. However it doesn’t seem that trust extends to Christmas hire vans as many units are not receiving what they requested. I know doms who have sourced local suppliers that can provide Vans at standard business rate however I am being told that they are not allowed to proceed with them due to a spreadsheet produced with little input from the operation. How can we deliver excellent customer service when ours hands are tied and options limited.

DOM

Looks like a national decision somewhere - lots of offices around here in exactly the same boat. All we hear about is trust, and resourcing properly then someone decides that out extra Christmas bulk drivers don't actually need a van. Complete radio silence on the subject. Simon Thompson - will this be factored into the next trust survey, as I can see the scores dropping before my eyes as I explain to my staff that the extra van we have had every year won't be coming this year, but I can't explain (or understand) why.

DOM

We were asked to request what we needed but then got told we couldn’t have them

Simon Thomson

DOMs decide - they request what they need via a TM1 forecast ( same for headcount) - but we do expect them to be delivering quality & the correct cost...

DOM

I agree with what you’re saying in principle but the fact is I have no fleet budget and consequently no idea what the right cost for my unit is?

I think there's a strong chance, i am anticipating another recession of some sort on the cards with all the increased inflation happening. However there's also the possibility that when CV eases up and public confidence rises, internet consumerism will slow down due to holidays, pubs, etc being more favourable and cheaper (in one sense).

All just speculation obviously.

DODR question
There no longer appears to be an option to record managers on delivery on DODR.
This gives a misleading picture of how an office is clearing or performing.
Seeing as this topic still appears on the Weekly Resource Meeting data that is now auto generated, it's causing suspicion and confrontation between the DOM and Rep and does not fully reflect the work that many managers put into their office on top of managerial tasks to keep the service for the customer at times.
