Have to agree! When Corby was going on about re-nationalising gas, electrcity, water etc... I was thinking wheres the money coming from. He was talking TRILLIONS of pounds. Yet had no idea where he'd get the funds from.

Plus shareholders would want compensating even if it was a compulsory share purchase.

Just wont happen, too expensive and too difficult.

when i grew up socialism was swear word in our house, but maybe for core essential services, taking away the opportunity for business men and women to move in, strip assets, cash in their chips and move on to the next venture could help. i'm guessing not many of the people at the top know or care about the business, only the price of shares.

Sadly true, but thanks to Vince Cable and co RM was privatised (and far too cheaply) but there's no going back, and now we're just another parcel carrier.

RM will cease to exist in it's current form once the profit is gone, the name will live on and that will be all

From what I understand they would only have to renationalise 51% of whatever firm they wanted to do, not sure if that is how it works.
But anyway, pie in the sky crap.

Like Atari and Commodore, 'Royal Mail' will be a brand name bought for cheap and slapped on some fly-by-night company's service to dupe people via brand recognition.

I thought that once the big shareholders had realised what they’d invested in they would start getting a few of their own presumably competent bodies on the board to try and turn the business round into something that would turn a healthy profit for the shareholders, after all, they chucked billions into getting their hands on a business that, after all these years, is providing little in return for their money. The change that would happen would probably exceed all our worst nightmares but the destination would probably be similar to the long, painful “death by a thousand cuts” route that we’re experiencing now with the useless dinosaurs at the helm.

Yes, and strike an agreement where we can use the bus lanes.
