It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We use cardboard sleeves on and off all year round, the false bases are non-existent and we don't have the time to go hunting around for them

...and I am sure the back of the posties at the DOs you feed will be wincing in protest.

As a newbie, is it just me or is the language of these CWU communications a bit of the difficult/heavy side? Ive read a few of them and they seem like they are written by a "Guardian" journalist and therefore not that easy to read? I thought that for communications that were intended to be cascaded down to all frontline troops, the concept was to pitch the language at an easy "sun reader" level so that it was simple to follow, and digest?
Does anyone else think that these CWU coms are heavy and would benefit from a plain english campaign approach in the way they are worded?

Dave Joyce is well known throughout Royal Mail and the Union for his verbose word usage. In fact, we make jokes about just that on here occasionally.Norfolk 'N' Chance wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 08:49As a newbie, is it just me or is the language of these CWU communications a bit of the difficult/heavy side? It's no different from if we used grey sleeves. The design of the grey sleeves is now the standard design for new sleeves. This time of year the stuff needs to get out the door as quick as possible as the next lot of work will be arriving. If it's anything like last year we'll be getting work in on pallets. tbqf this time of year it's just a case of using whatever is availableTrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 08:34...and I am sure the back of the posties at the DOs you feed will be wincing in protest.

Glad its just not me then! - surely CWU must realise that this tone/language is not engaging and is counter productive to what the comms are trying to achieve? I think the CWU need to do some benchmarking with other unions from different sectors to see how things have moved on from what I would describe as a 1970's approach.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 08:57Dave Joyce is well known throughout Royal Mail and the Union for his verbose word usage. Tough. We'll need the space in the MC as we process both inward and outward mail at Xmas. The only way we'd be able to make more room would be to send all the mech as manual and use the space between the machinesmjd24 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 10:15Doubt there will be enough space even for loose loading.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 10:13Well if pallets are all that's available then it'll be pallets or loose loadingmjd24 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 09:41Well there wont be enough space for pallets surely.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 09:03It's no different from if we used grey sleeves. And we'll send it straight back to the DO as the space where it was will have already been taken. tbqf it'll be a case of tough s**t. We've got extra lorries but not the drivers to drive them so we won't be able to have lorries stuck somewhere full up with no where to unload.2yearpostie wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 11:03no way of moving pallets in the D.O so itll get refused at mine and sent back to the mc
Having the artics leave their trailers behind is not an option as the lorries that do the MC -> DO runs will need them bays and this time of year we can sometimes have 3-4 artics arrive at the same time. The artic drivers can't hang around waiting for space to be cleared to unload as they're on restricted hours.

Then it will stay on the truck. Like I said we have nothing to move pallets at our delivery office and the days of handballing are long gone.

Then the truck will have to stay in your yard or the truck driver will have to take a pallet truck and unload it, to anywhere in your yard2yearpostie wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 12:11SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 11:20And we'll send it straight back to the DO as the space where it was will have already been taken. tbqf it'll be a case of tough s**t.
