Being moved off your link/duty

We have a situation in our DO were link holders are being moved off their links because walk holders have asked/been asked to work their day off. In my opinion a duty is a duty whether its a walk or link, so people shouldn't really be moved to accommodate others. Personally i wouldn't have too much issue moving if i was asked beforehand and got on well with the walk holder, but part of the problem is managers doing this without even talking to the link holder first. I would definitely complain if this happened to me but i imagine all i would get back is the "needs of the business" speech they give whenever they pull one of these tricks.

Does this happen in other offices? Is there any sort of rule in place about it?

Link? Is that a day off cover from what your saying? If it is then yes always happens otherwise the duty holder won't work their day off

i know what you mean, basically the duty holder will only work their day off if the cover gets screwed over, absolutely refuse it and put in a grievance
if they quote "operational needs" ask for a trolley take full meal relief indoors and you will contact via PDA what's left close to finish time, absolutely no personal mobile phone used

This goes on a lot, we have had loads of peeps complaining of this over the years.
It boils down to lazy managers and reps, and scumbag colleagues.

Yes its a duty which covers 3/4 walk holders days off. Always been referred to as a 'link' in my DO, didn't realise that wasn't the common term.

Just seems strange to me that these 'link' duties had to be applied for the same as a normal walk, yet aren't treated the same by management.

I was told that they are only allowed to move you off your 'covers' 1 day of the week, has anyone else heard this ?
Would help to have some clarification before I finally pull them up about it - I'd like to have my facts straight - if anyone knows please ?
I go for weeks without working on any of my covers...I'm basically just used as a reserve

I'm a postie of 28 years and have always picked a cover duty as i like to do different walks each day,a cover duty is a signed for duty so no you shouldn't be moved if you are you need to put in a grievance with your union and boss. They have tried to do it to me a few times just stand your ground and refuse to budge,on occasions the duty holder has gone home as i refused to budge.
