Am I being paranoid?

So I have been a postie for 8 weeks now, and one of the line managers clearly dislikes me (to the point of physically turning his back to me if I ask him something... It has been noted by other posties so I know this bit isn't just me.)
I had no workplace coach, just sent out on routes.
I've been given (in the last 2 weeks,) 4 different routes that I've never done before, all single duties with 3+ days of undelivered mail on (including packets.)
I've been told by aforementioned line manager that it's unacceptable to bring work back.
He also has told me it's unacceptable to leave stuff in the frame.
He's also (I've been informed by a friendlier manager) named me in a meeting as being a problem for taking longer than I should, and going over my time regularly.
I got called into the office by a different line manager to say I'd left a special on my frame. He had disputed this as he was there the day it happened and had talked to me next to my frame before I left, but he told me to look out as someone had clearly thrown it on there once I'd left "because I'm new."
Friday I had 2 Yorks of work, loaded the large packets first after sorting the letters and small packets into crates. When I went to get my second York (and use the toilet) it had been moved across the building. Loaded van without looking only to find mid-route that loads of the small packets were not for me. On return to the depot there were 10 or so tracked packets on my frame that, when I'd left at 10.30 (I'm new and slow) had not been there.

Am I being picked on? Or am I going mad? I've taken to getting photos of my frame as I go out, and as I leave because I'm paranoid I'm going to get in trouble for something!

That seems to be the overriding attitude, but as someone who has lost 3 jobs in 3 years (2 redundancies and one I was actually rubbish at) I really can't afford to lose another!

It seems like you are being setup. First off I’d go straight to the Union. I know it’s not easy - even 3 years in I find it hard to stand up for myself, but you’ll need to do something...be it asking for a H1 (bullying and harassment form), going in the office in front of him and asking another line manager you get on with for the bullying helpline number, or simply saying you have a doctors appointment about your mental health at X o clock so need to be done on time today. Any of those should make him take a step back.

Eventually he should stop bullying you and will move onto the next person.

It’s ridiculous, farcical and downright evil that some managers play things this way but you have to play the game back. Arm yourself with information (overrunning procedure, bullying and harassment etc) and play them back.

Youre well within your right to bring stuff back it you dont have time to do it, as long as you follow the over running procedure. Its often easier said than done depending on what manager youve got, but ultimately they cant make you work over your finish time- or run around like a maniac trying to get everything done.

1st question is ,have you a permanent contract?
If so, then contact Human Resources number (number on back of wage slip )and file a Grievance with them.
Ask your work colleagues if they are prepared to witness your treatment.
Your PDA Data actuals will back up any work/ speed problems.

Try not to get wound up with false accusations,it tactical aimed at making you blow your top and say something you may later regret.

Check your packets when loading the van, we had a manager awhile back that had a habit of chucking all the missorted tracked parcels on a newbies York (as there normally last to leave) and hoping they didn’t notice, they would then be told they had to deliver them as they are tracked when they phoned up later to say they had somehow ended up with them.

Typical poor management/bullying if you have to much work to complete you tell the manager if its three days work then he wont want that flagged up so stand your ground take half the walk and tracked if you have time to do that if not show him what you will have time to do, you must take your rep with you so anything he says will be witnessed.

Really feel for your situation mate! People that have had a long period of stable employment perhaps dont fully appreciate what its like to be in this sort position. It takes a while for the fear of loosing a new job to subside and this sort of behaviour is only just going to amplify any anxieties.

Whilst the media is reporting theres loads of jobs and not enough workers, like all these headlines, its all a bit regionally biased.... try getting one of those vacancies! Ive been unemployed for over 10 months and only started this week as a casual, and so far so good! Such a relief to be working and doing something. Just cant understand what the person doing this is hoping to achieve? surely if you leave they are in a worse position still?

Difficult for me to suggest the best action, (others here are far batter placed than me to do that) but like you, I would be photographing everything and keeping notes, times, dates etc. Sad that you have to do this, but if needs be you can justify yourself. Me being me, if i felt I was being set up I'd probably leave the DO and then pop back a short while later to see what had been placed on the frame and video it (time/date stamp the video if possible). So in answer to your headline, No Personally I dont think your being paranoid!

You absolutely do not have to deliver everything, there are policies and procedures to follow so don't let anyone try to tell you that you absolutely must deliver everything. All you have to do is work to your time. That is it! Any OT is voluntary.

If nothing changes then apply for other jobs mate. As bad as a job can be it is not a prison sentence. There are options so don't sweat it
