Hi, my contract was fixed term from Nov 2020 until end of June 2021. I am still working and have asked different managers to chase up my contract being made permanent which they said they would. 4 months have passed and, although my present Dom had tried to get contract for me, I have heard nothing. I want to look into applying for a mortgage but have no contract to show. Does anyone know who I can talk to about this? 4 months should be plenty of time to sort this out, I'm feeling pretty annoyed about it as I work lots of overtime and no one seems to care....

Don't worry about it, you'll get the contract sooner or later. Don't recall anyone ever losing their job once their fixed contract has ended and I've been in the job thirty years

I had a fixed term contract in 1982. I waited 5 months till they renewed it for a permanent one… nothing changes !

The good news is now that you have passed the end date of your contract without Royal Mail replacing it, they still have to abide by the terms of the contract when giving notice. So check out what it says about that in your personal paperwork, it should be 1 months notice I think.

However as has been said by others Royal Mail are more likely to keep on employing you as its rare for them to get rid of temps in Delivery, unless they have conduct issues.

Also IIRC after 2 years because of an agreement with the CWU, they should offer you a permanent contract.

If you are in the CWU and have a local rep, make them the first port of call.

Thanks for the replies, I'm not really concerned about the contract being made permanent as I know it will be but I would like the contract asap as I want to apply for a mortgage. It seems unfair and frustrating that there's nothing I can do about it, when I still turn up for work everyday but they can't even give me job security. The union reps have tried to help but have no answers to their emails....

Try ringing HR to find out the status of your contract, I believe this is the correct number - 0345 606 0603

They might be able to say if a permanent contract is being processed or no contract application
has been made or you've been extended on another temporary one. Tell them why ie for mortgage
and that you've tried your DOM but had no information back.

I waited 12 years before a piece of paper appeared with the word 'permanent' on it, and that was only after union pressure. The full time 35 hour contract I finally got recently, stated 'temporary change in hours' originally!!

I bumped into one of the lads last week (I'm retired). He was telling me that one of the new starters on a temporary contract had walked into the office and handed his notice in. When asked why he was leaving he said he naturally assumed because no-one had said anything to him, that his contract was coming to an end so he found a new job.
