How long before the wheels fall off

Post by no1postie »

Me, nearly 14 years service and was proud to be a part of royal mail then. after a lifetime of self employment and paying my own taxes and ni contributions etc. I believed that i had found the right fit for me to see me up to retirement,(two and a half years to state pension age now) however i can see that the job has changed, and while it has always been a challenging job it has now become almost impossible for us all. new starters, floaters, i feel for you, and all colleagues, need to come together. the unions are dead in the water.

Totally agree with you mate, some kind of action needs to be taken but what avenues can we take when the CWU won't wake up and see what's happening to their members mentally and physically.

Unbelievable, wasn't it? A whole half hour dedicated to deluded, out of touch back slapping whilst those of us "at the coal face" ,as he likes to say, are going into two, three days' worth of mail every day and morale, just before Christmas, is falling out our arses.

Just unbelievable.

He mentions, and I've heard him do it before, people will moan etc.
But he just thinks they're moaning for no good reason.
He just doesn't get it, at all.

What I've noticed since this pandemic (18 months) is that we are all exhausted. Physically and mentally draining, every day from the young to the old it's really taking its toll.

Probably 5 years ago peeps used to work there day off, go that extra mile, especially at xmas. Now the tables have turned and morale and team effort are down the drain.

Most of the guys & girls don't get a genuine thanks from the dom. It's always a case of lapsing because you have time according to the traffic volumes. That's not always the case that I or anybody else for that matter has the time because everyday is slightly different. Yesterday I had 2 specials and 12 large parcels, Today I have double that...so common sense would tell myself and the dom that it would be impossible to manage any extra. Problem is the dom does not see what's in front of him apart from his clip board full of figures.

If any new starter has just entered this job it will break you to pieces in a matter of weeks if not months and you'll be wishing to find another job.

I too thought it was a job until retirement, did almost 25 years and had to get out this year 5 years short of state pension age. Best decision I ever made. Wild horses would not get me back now. So so sad.

I've been a postman for 34 years. I started off part time on a walking duty, then went full time and onto rurals. I'm now on 4 days a week as a rest day cover sometimes a holiday reserve depending on who's off. I would hate to be on the same duty everyday. I know the jobs changed over the years, but that's life. All you have to do is work to your time, nobody can say anything to you.

Truly doesn't give a flying f**k more like. He'll be away soon with a payoff so big he can tell everyone to f**k off.
How old is Terry?
When can he retire?

Absolute Dinosaur.

I just can't see how they are going to get through Christmas without a biblical failure. We are so short staffed, struggling to recruit, struggling to keep the ones we do recruit, numerous duties failing every day, new revision implemented, stupid amount of d2ds starting to come in & the posties are all wondering how & why the f**k management have let it get so bad!

I'm almost 3 years into my RM 'career' and still fairly young and fit but I don't see myself having any long term future if this is going to be the new standard.

The trouble with all these turds is they have no idea what being a postie is all about these days, it's years since they did a tap, there more interested in keeping off the bag and going on jolly meetings and brown nosing their counterparts, there all the same, ask yourself why this union that was once militant and on strike nationally fairly often, hasn't had a national strike in ages, and it's not got anything to do with bent judges either, ask yourself when a unit finally snaps over something, there back indoors and doing the work again within a day or so, full of bullshit we will have an independant bloke in etc etc who always sides with whatever the management say.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.
