Roadworthy van Dash lights??

Hi all

I need your opinions please on this as l had shall we say a debate/argument with the manager and a numpty who hands out the keys etc.

Long story short I asked for a fault sheet only to be told by the d1ck handing out the keys that I don't need one and have I checked the levels etc to which I said no going off the dash lights etc

I logged it all on the pda anyway.

What you guys think? Was I in the wrong??

M.O.T fail to have any warning lights on the dash lit, if it won't pass an M.O.T I'd class it as unroadworthy and not use it.

I think the mistake you made was saying you didn't check the levels. I know this isn't a requirement except on a Tuesday, but there could be an undetected leak. It does look as if there is a problem as there are 3 warning lights showing.
I would have first checked all your levels, then went and got the PMT form. You did the right thing logging it into the PDA also.

It was my day off and the guy used the van on that day and told me about the oil light being on and joked he put oil in!!

I went out with the manager and then checked the dipstick and it looked OK on that but obviously like in my car if I have oil lights or any lights on I do something to clear them.

Bit of a joke really.

The oil light may come on for several different reasons, including a low oil level, a faulty sensor, a fuel leak into the engine resulting in poor viscosity of the oil etc.
If the oil light illuminates while you’re driving, you should immediately pull over and turn off the vehicle.
Your engine may stop and refuse to turn over if you have run out of oil.
An accident could occur if the vehicle suddenly stops while you’re driving. It is not safe, and in fact very dangerous, to drive with the oil light on.

So my advice would be to fully log the fault and I would not drive it as it could result in catastrophic engine failure.

EML light is on, if this doesn’t go out after starting up it’s an MOT failure.

Nothing done about the van after submitting a fault report and same van given to me again by the numpty who hands them out, completely blanked me after he threw his dummy out the other day.

I asked the Manager would you drive it like this and he said yes

I had similar problem, said I wouldn't drive it unless the manager emailed me to say he had instructed me to drive the van even though I had informed him of fault. I did get the emai for that dayl but the van was off the road the next day

Except he probably won't be held accountable and in all probability they'll drop the s**t from the fan in your lap

Maybe so but I have put his name to the faults so he can't deny he wasn't aware of them.

That is fine , however at the end of the day it’s your licence should anything go wrong and a subsequent investigation finds you culpable. It’s either roadworthy or it isn’t , you should use your own judgement.

Fair comment, it is drivable I suppose BUT it would fail an Mot so I guess nobody should be driving it just baffles me the response I've had for trying to do the right thing and take it off the road

My friend ran a kid over last year on delivery. Not his fault, she ran straight out in front of him. Police came and went over van with a fine tooth comb. Checking everything. Luckily it was 100%.
