All colleagues should have been briefed about the new Bar Coding stamps and the need not to mark the bar code when cancelling stamps
Both in Mail Centre's and Delivery you should be seeing these posters going up and all colleagues should have been briefed about the new Bar Coding stamps and the need not to mark the bar code when cancelling stamps.
This is an important change as we will see these stamps become the norm and something your colleagues will need your support in order to adopt the change.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Thanks for info, this is the sort of thing they used to inform us of in wtl sessions but we haven't had one for about two years.

Hand stamped because the machine would make the bar code unreadable. Surely the company should have done changes to the machines before introducing bar coded stamps! Going back to the 20th century!

To be manually hand stamped. Dream on. Most MCs probably stop cancelling stamps very early on on their late shifts just to get the stuff out the door. I've yet to see a single one of these barcoded stampsfly-catchers wrote: ↑27 Oct 2021, 18:29Hand stamped because the machine would make the bar code unreadable. only in RM can they make an easy task more complicated and then have to rely on decent communication channels to inform everyone. Pity that they don't have such a working coms channel that could handle this.

MRM:Hand-stamping tool
Tue Jun 30, 2015
Keep an eye out for the new hand-stamp tool in your office.
From today, delivery offices will start to receive the new hand-stamping tool. Non-cancelled postage stamps in our network lose the business significant amounts of money each year. This tool is designed to easily help our postmen and women stamp out this loss of revenue.
Last year, we asked you for your ideas about how we can protect our revenue. We listened to your suggestions and acted on your feedback and have developed the new hand-stamping tool.
We trialled six shortlisted hand-stamp tools at Banbury and Mount Pleasant delivery offices to arrive at the best model for the job.
Although the first opportunity to cancel stamps is in the mail centre, postmen and women are an essential last line of defence to tackle the issue. Remember: revenue protection is everyone’s responsibility.

I’m sure that poster & information is for post offices, it’s not the postman job to cancel stamps

Revenue protection is everyone's responsibility.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

With staffing levels these days, they can dream on if they want every last stamp cancelled. We don't have the time, we struggle to clear most days now

When they start charging for EVERY underpaid item , then I might be concerned about uncancelled stamps.

Re: All colleagues should have been briefed about the new Bar Coding stamps and the need not to mark the bar code when cancelling stamps
Some days I’ve got uncancelled stamps in every bundle and I’ve had parcels with £3 -£5 worth of stamps on not cancelled.
I’m PT and FTimers should spot these when running the mail in (I always spotted the uncancelled stamps when in on OT)
too lazy and blind as a bat some of the people I work with
some people don’t care and want to get out as quickly as possible - don’t like it when other people are away before them

If it's the same in DOs as in MCs with current staffing levels there simply isn't the time. MCs struggle to clear each day, even in the summer and based on threads in the forum, DOs are failing walks left, right and centre as it isqwerty2 wrote: ↑31 Oct 2021, 09:19Some days I’ve got uncancelled stamps in every bundle and I’ve had parcels with £3 -£5 worth of stamps on not cancelled.

You're right Clash but it never happens no matter how many times you tell people.![]()
You've got the guys on IPS, the guys throwing off a second duty and last line of defence... the Postie as he's checking the mail before he shoves it through the letterbox. In theory nobody should get unfranked mail but it's the same old story Posties saying, "I haven't got the time to cancel out stamps ... it's not my job".![]()
I always take the opinion of: I'm NOT going to be walking up peoples drives and giving them a FREE stamp, which of course they're going to reuse, so I'm basically working for FREE. Sod That

Can someone explain why there is a need to need not to 'not mark the bar code when cancelling stamps'?
They wont be getting scanned.
