Recording Overtime when o a 24 hours contract.

Post by Foxel »

One of the most frustrating things I've had to deal with since taking a contract is recording overtime.

I'm on a 24 hours contract but have automatically been out down for 5 days.

Week one after not knowing where to actually record OT or the different reason tags for OT (pressure, prep etc.) I emailed my manager everything including coming in early for prep, leaving late, and other agreed on extra work and full day OT for the 5th day.

I got an email back from payroll kindly advising that I need to also claim 1h 12 a day, if I am working 6 hours a day and 5 days.

This confused me but I came to the realisation that the system will assume, as I am on a 24 hour contract, that if I work 5 days I'm only working 4 hours 48 a day. (20hs divide by 5.) Even though I put a full day as OT i'm guessing that was ignored of the system already has me down for 5 days. :hmmmm

I was since told when trying to calculate OT that I should only add the 1h 12 if I have been put on ATD, which I wouldn't know if I have or not as I work all over. I also said that I don't really care if I have been put on ATD or not if I'm working the 6 hours (Always) I am getting paid for what I work. And to be fair I think I do.

It is really starting to annoy me as it looks like I'm taking the piss with 3 to 4 types of OT a day. And I am thinking about taking a bigger contract just to make OT easier to calculate.

Can anyone make more sense of this than me?

Thanks

RM really shouldn't be giving out 20 hour contracts, unless they're prepared for people to work those hours...

Sorry 24 hours. But yeah same goes. They really have no intention of the newer part-time staff to actually work their contracted hours.

Hi, I suggest seeing your workplace coach about claiming your overtime and which sheets you need to fill in, in my experience different offices tend to have their own ways of recording this. For example in our office we have a pre-duty overtime sheet which we complete if on early sorting/prepping however, we are quite a small office. The other thing I would suggest is recording all your overtime on your phone or in a diary so you can check your wage slip, it's not unusual for time to be missed off. The manager probably doesn't know about inputting overtime as not his job, you could always speak with the person who inputs the overtime and work hours. Hope this is of some help, remember if working extra time you are likely to qualify for more mealbreak time, again speak to your workplace coach about this. :

Just put down on the sheets all the o/t you've worked and if you're not paid it in full query with your manager why your being underpaid. As we're paid weekly then it's fairly easy to keep on top of it, it would be a bit of a nightmare if we were paid monthly.

Wait until you realise they hide the overtime sheet.
And hope you’re one of those people who will let it slide.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Thank all.

Just found when they put me down for pre-overtime and I check the sheet after the shift I need to do an ATD adjust on top of what I already do. My finish and FT finish times don't align.

Looking forward to change.
