Can someone explain

Post by markarronsmith »

Hi,

I’ve been doing parcel duties recently and every day is mental. Around 90/130 drops just tracked items!

Can someone explain to me tho, what if I cant complete my tracked parcels on time? I have a start and finish time and don’t want to do overtime. Do I just bring them back to the office?

We are told to leave the first and second class parcels if we have to much but quite frankly, we haven’t got enough drivers! And then we face a back log of parcels the next day. I’m super stressed with this job especially on parcels. Mail, you can take back but what do I do with tracked parcels?

Tell your manager before you go out that you may not be able to complete, this will probably end in an argument, then about an hour before your time phone your manager to tell them what you're going to bring back,be prepared for more arguments and bullying

I think the general rule of thumb is 20 parcels an hour is what is expected .. if your out for 4 hours take 80 parcels and whatever is left let them know.. there’s always a massive push on tracked and they scare people into not bringing it back but if the workload is to much in to little time you don’t have much of a choice if you don’t wanna stay out, as long as you let them know in the morning you won’t get round and follow procedure you should be fine. as for back log of parcels that’s up to them to try and clear

I got the 20 a hour parcel put to me when I was doing parcels, 5 hour duty 100 parcels expected😎, they did forget I had to put bags out to 3 walks which was a challenge as they all came in at different times and were spread out, anyway when you factored that in with vehicle checks and break the amount expected was never discussed again.

You could scan every parcel before you go out and optimise the route on your PDA ,it will give you a estimated finish time.If the time given pushes you overtime, throw back x amount of parcels (1 parcel = 5 mins). You must tell your manager what amount you’ve left and get the ok otherwise they will get you for delay.

Golden rule...always put the onus back onto the manager! Tell him/her you probably won’t complete, and just follow his/her instructions. If any trouble see your union rep. They can’t make you go over your time!

I genuinely didn’t even know you could do this on the PDA. I prefer to do it myself when I’m doing parcels as I know the rounds & area, but still good to know. How do you do it?

Use R-ON on the PDA no arguments then,if it says it takes too long then it's too long.

The 20 an hour only applies to parcels on a walk not if covering a town/postcode like many are told, It's unrealistic. Also Why are you doing anything other than Tracked items if doing Lat's or is it because others are leaving lots of overweight's regular off various walks in your DO?

PDA Tool app called R-ON ,ask your Manager or Coach how to use it.
Probably cost Royal Mail lots of money to develop ,but is your managers best kept secret ,(mainly because it’s quite generous) but is an official tool to use.

If it did cost a lot of money , then quite frankly they have been duped , it’s abysmal beyond belief, the previous version was just about okay, the newer version is ,as I say abysmal.
Others may have a different experience however.
