Parcel Collect Enhancement

We launched our award winning Parcel Collect product just over a year ago. One of the barriers that our customers tell us for using our doorstep collection service is that they do not have the ability at home to print a postage label.

In August, a trial started in 4 Delivery Offices (Bath, Cheltenham, Doncaster and Newton Mearns) of “Bring My Label”, an enhancement to the Parcel Collect product which allows customers to request that we bring them a postage label when performing a Parcel Collect.

The trial has proved successful with managers, OPGs, and customers, and therefore, from the 15th November, we are introducing the Bring My Label feature nationwide.

To enable this, each unit will print out the postage label in the morning. This will then be handed to and attached to the item by the customer, or by the OPG if collection is from a Safeplace, and the collection job completed as normal.

To facilitate this, each Delivery Office will receive a new label printer, which will be located in the offices CSP or SDG locker, and roll-out of these is well underway with c.230 printers already installed, and the rest being installed over the next week.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's fazed out , i get about 1 door step collection every 2 months , i don't think customers want to hand over a parcel to someone on their doorstep (even if they have id and a scanner) , there's so many scams going on all the time , i think customers prefer sending the parcel via the post office , old skool method , they've done it that way for years and trust it 100%.

I have 1 customer on my walk who sends 10-12 Parcel Collects per week, although most are fairly small items.

There were another 2 who took advantage of the free offer a few months ago, but haven't used it since.

Why would they phase it out when it’s a 100% profit enterprise? I can’t see it being got rid of in fact I’d say the opposite ,it’s going to become more and more, they obviously like it because they’ve just spent money on all these printer things.

They actually did win an award for 'new innovative product' in the post awards thingy.

Royal Mail triumphed in the New Business Development of the Year category following the rollout of its Parcel Collect parcel pickup service, which at the time was labelled as “one of the biggest shake ups to the daily delivery service since the launch of the post box in 1852.” The move meant that online sellers and shoppers in the UK no longer needed to leave their homes if they wanted to mail or return prepaid items by post. In order to use the service, customers simply ensure that they have already paid the correct postage to send their item. If an item does not have prepaid postage, customers are able to pay for their postage online or via the Royal Mail app.

I still think (apart from lack of a printer) the biggest barrier is not knowing when we’ll collect. We have people here heading out at 6.30am to deliver parcels, and people finishing at 6.30pm. That’s 12 hours someone potentially has to sit in and wait (unless they have a safe place for collecting it from), and so in the end it’s easier to just queue at the PO for 10mins.

That’s 12 hours someone potentially has to sit in and wait (unless they have a safe place for collecting it from), and so in the end it’s easier to just queue at the PO for 10mins.

Can't see you having anyone out delivering parcels at 06:30. For one thing I believe it's illegal to be knocking on people's doors that early. Also 90% of DOs won't have had their final run in from the local MC by then, the ones that do won't have had a chance to process the mail by 06:30

We have parcel duties going out at 7am, last wagon comes at 8am but there's plenty to do before that arrives.

Are them parcel duties just normal packets that either take up too much space in the van or are to big for a trolley?

We have both types going out.
2 parcel duties delivering oversize packets for HCT duties and then the van shares have one of the posties if the pairing go out with the inital glut of packets to relieve the pressure when they go out later with the mail as well.
