We are just coming to the end of our revision process.
We are a big office with a number of people with issues. They are now claiming protection under the disability discrimination act.
Right now, As it stands, they will jump to the top of the list and choose duties first. This is causing ructions in the office.
What I want to know is… what is the exact process here?
Can they choose what they want before anyone else picks regardless of seniority or do that have to wait their turn and then have alterations made to their duty to accommodate their disabilities?
I’m sure this has come up before but I think they’re doing it wrongly in our case.
Hope someone can clarify what should be happening here.

Re: Revision… disabled… (Que jumping question)
It depends what the disability is. Each case has to be judged on its own merits.
For instance:
If someone has a walking disability then a duty with little walking has to be ringfenced before the start of the pick.
In a lot of cases it won't be possible to make adjustments to a duty to accommodate the disability but in some it might.
I don't understand why this always causes ructions.
I would rather be healthy and be able to do whatever duty life throws at me than have to have live with underlying health conditions.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Ok. Who judges the merits?
Any link to agreed union stance on this issue?

Re: Revision... disable... (Que jumping question)
Right at the start up process of any revisions your rep and the Dom are supposed to identify anybody who might be covered under the Equality Act, also anybody who might have any family friendly arrangements in place.
Usually the health and safety rep should be involved or Equality Officer if your branch has one, and can be used to assist along with the disabled colleague from the unions pont and occupational health from Royal mail's viewpoint a reasonable adjustment to enable the disabled colleague to continue to be employed, sometimes only a small adjustment will be needed like for instance flatter terrain, adjustment to start times, etc etc, other times for more serious cases more adjustments are required which could mean a duty has to be ringfenced such as if the colleague can't do a delivery and requires an indoor job like working in the callers/ dom support etc.
As clash said each case should be judged on the disabled colleague's condition and what they can do.

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Re: Revision... disable... (Que jumping question)
where does covid and other stress related condition issues come into the equation any updates have not been done to factor in this in situation
i.e van sharing & working indoors in a crowded environment
we still have some who will work indoors with no protection but flatly refuse to van share and will get ringfenced for a single duty in a repick

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
