Managers calling you while off sick

Post by thebeast »

What if any are the rules on Managers calling you while off sick? I thought a letter to invite you to an interview was correct?

they call them "welfare" calls . I had 3-4 silent calls as there was nothing in "The Royal Fail Manual " about Answerphones . The idiot on acting got the hang of it at the 4th attempt.

The other "message of support " was if you've difficulty in retriving your messages , I'll send you a letter to invite to interview , how thoughtful and caring (not) from a known bully with a bad reputation . That one should have been sacked years ago for having someone by the throat on a collections bay , only for nepotisim , usual story eh ?

To quote Royal Fail it's our new approach to absence -removing the barriers -returning people back to work as soon as possible . It's all about ticking off RM's regimented sheets and impressing other managers , that's why a rep could be advisable . If a place has a bad reputation , there'll be orders to get the figures down .

The best one in Lancashire was a guy was in bed @ 11ish and missus said " There's a guy called M****y on the phone -response was "Tell him to ***k off . This was the time when it got very silly due to pressure from on high . That guy told M****y the Book " in no uncertain terms not to pull that stunt again .The other one was a colourful manager saying at WTL if you ring sick G****e will be on the blower and G****e will be p****d off .

Grievances and B&H should sort those idiots out .

Apparently it's RM being "caring " as you could have fallen down the stairs if on your own and we were being "negative " as it's improved by 18% , RM are careful who they pick on though of course !

Thats the normal if you cant make the interview phone in tell them whats wrong with you, tell them you will contact them for an update of how your feeling in couple of days my advice offer them to come to your house you are to sick to go out ,if there that desperate for an interview they will come in my experience they wont come if they do tell them whats wrong with you and if it goes on longer than a week you will consult your doctor nothing else not when your rep is not there as long as your absence is genuine no need to worry dont get intimidated. :so there :so there :so there

calls at home

Post by vigilante »

As long as you have a certificate and produce it to them they should not call you at home!
It's intimidation.
We had one DOM who popped by a sick blokes house while he said he was going to the dump--------HE LIVES ABOUT TWENTY MILES AWAY!!!!!!

We had another lino who went to someones house as he was 'passing' on a SAT NIGHT!!!
Then the bloke was called in to the office for not answering the door!!!!!------------YOU COULDN'T WRITE IT

Now please correct me if i am wrong but ....
1.we dont have to give managers our phone number.
2.we dont have to answer the door.
3.our doctors are medicaly trainned proffesionals they will soon prescribe rest n relaxation due to work induced stress. Brought about by managers harrassing us. It is truely amazing how stress effects people. How sickness can be be lenghtened by a mindless moron sticking his untrained nose into very difficult situations. Just cause your sick dont mean that your social life should stop either.
Not all illnessess have to have you housebound.

Just a point on no1. I to thought I would be clever and not tell them of my new telephone number after moving house but when I collapsed at work they tried to ring my wife and as they didn`t have the number of course couldn`t get through, lucky for me my nephew works at our office and phoned my sister up who relayed the news to my wife. But most firms will ring you up at home now if your off and hide behind it`s to check on your welfare bullshit.
No2 no you don`t have to answer the door but it`s much more fun when you do open the door and your dog `accidently` gets out. :whistle

My Mam had a Hysterectomy which means a long period of rest & recuperation . The County Council sent a woman from the Office , wanting to know when she was due back though A Consultant had signed her off for another month . My dad told her to **** off and get off his land . Strangely enough there wasn't any harrassment or hassle after that from the Council . Can't have you in the Office for that !

Three thoughts spring to mind:
INVASION OF PRIVACY
BREACH OF CIVIL LIBERTIES
BULLYING AND HARRASSMENT

I've created a poll about this at http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/forum/vi ... 5750#95750

So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Although slightly off topic, what are the rules concerning phoning employees when off sick and insisting that go into the sorting office at 6.30 a.m. on a Saturday morning, to discuss why they are off?

One of Royal Fail's plans for Attendance Procedure was that staff were to phone up every morning BEFORE the time the duty was to start , The Union got a leaked document about draconian Attendence Procedure plans and exposed them in The Voice .

The CWU fought this off in talks , but early in 2006 , RM wanted the draconian measures trialed . Sounds if that manager is pulling a fast one , there's nothing agreed , but's that no doubt due to pressure from above and the opportunity to earn brownie points .

RM will just say absence has improved by 18% from the old system of just leaving word on a answerphone for example , and the subsequent "welfare calls ", "letters of support" , hack contractor ATOS "doctors" etc .

Things just stay on the backburner with RM , any chance to take a mile or pull a fast one they'll try it on .

norbet, as 'nothing has been agreed', can they do anything (in terms of conduct code) to an employee who never answers calls from RM whilst off sick ?? I have Caller ID and would consider them phoning me every morning as a pain in the proverbial, and would just ignore any such calls as unwanted harrassment. If you're sick, you're sick, and as long as you phoned-in originally, why should we put up with this hounding of people who are ill ???
