Advice needed please : Dog attack

Hi, can anyone help please ?
Been with RM just under 3 years, still a reserve. Got quite a nasty dog bite recently - needed stitches & x-rays - large dog came out of a garden and out onto street to attack me. Had a minor bite last year but this was bloody terrifying. Had a week off sick which then ran straight into 2 weeks A/L. Bite has taken longer than I expected to get to the 'ok' stage it's at today - still sore & healing but useable hand.
I'm back on Monday and just found out that I've been put on the same duty (all week) where I got bitten 3 weeks ago.
I know loads of different duties and I'm rarely on the same one more than a day or so and don't often do this particular one so why the hell they've done this is beyond me - are they just insensitive tw*ts or something more bloody minded ?
Would appreciate someone else's perspective please .

As far as I’m aware the delivery to that address should have been suspended with immediate effect , via letter from your manager ,and the whole street if necessary. The police should have been informed as well, I’ve heard of householders receiving a police caution for such matters and rightly so as well. If it isn’t safe don’t go there. If safety is the number one priority then something has to be done.

The mail was suspended for all of 2 days. I informed the police myself as it quickly became apparent that the management weren't going to do it. They expected me back at work the next working day (Monday) with an open wound which is why I went to my GP for advice. My hand was in a lot of pain, swollen, bloody & stitched. I couldn't use it properly and they expected me to go in and throw-in d2d's. Someone went round to look at the property, delivery was suspended, dog owners put up a bigger fence and mail was reinstated by Wednesday of that week.
Plenty of people know that duty so I really don't think there's any need for them to be so bloody minded as to put me on it on my first day back - and apparently for the whole of next week

If you was still "sick" going into your annual leave I would claim your 2 weeks annual leave back and have 3 weeks on the sick.

Have you discussed your concerns with your DOM &, if you're in the union, your rep? Although if they've now put up a bigger fence is there any more chance you'll get attacked by that particularly dog than another random dog on another street/duty?

Nice to see your being very sensitive ffs would you deliver to same addreess after being bitten by there dog if even they put the great wall of china round their garden.. i certainly would'nt.

Personally I would if it seemed clear there was little prospects of the dog now getting out/attacking me in the future and I was just expected to deliver to an external letterbox but not everybody thinks like I do, hence why I asked the other questions, if you're so clever why not give the OP some guidance, does he have any alternative if the DOM is insisting that they have to return to that duty?

There's no external postbox, I still have to enter the front garden to get to the letterbox, the fence has allegedly been raised at the side of the house to prevent it jumping over into the street again. I work on so many different duties (and hardly ever on this one) that I can't believe there isn't somewhere else they could put me on my first day back. I'm 5ft tall and 7 stone soaking wet (female - not a teeny weeny bloke btw !) I used to love the job, it's bloody hard work but I loved it, but now if I could afford to walk away today, I would.

Work in mc but if i did delivry would be a big no an why would i seek advice from a dom none of them give a flying f**k from what i read on here..

Give the post for that address to Your manager.He should visit them.
Report the dog attack to the police .

You say the dog came out and attacked you, was this over the fence/wall or through an open gate ? If the dog was able to jump the fence and this is now rectified, just do the round and if no external box at the address don't go in and endorse mail as 'dog loose'. You know they have a dangerous dog so don't go in, even if you can't see it, it may be round the back or someone could open the door. If it escaped due to the gate being open, then I'd give the area a miss if you can see it's not secure, endorse all mail as 'dog loose', surprising how much pressure the neighbours can put on people when they get no post. As for the dog bite, if in the union, get in touch with the legal team, keep all receipts, hospital parking tickets, prescriptions etc to add to your claim, may take a few months to a year, but you should get a decent payout (I got £1500 for a simple bite to the knee). Nothing concentrates the homeowners mind than a prosecution and filling out of insurance claim forms.

Have management reported the attack through 'SHIELD' - if you don't think they have and have just managed the situation 'in house'
you can report it through SHIELD yourself through the 'people app' NOT the Workplace Farcebook app. Alternatively, you could also report it by
phone to them (the security help desk) too.
