Evening Everyone,
My wife and I are expecting our first child next year and we've being looking into what were entitled to with regards to leave.
I've done some research and would appreciate it if someone could confirm or deny what I believe to be true.
What we'd like to do is - Wife takes 6 months maternity leave on the enhanced maternity pay until the enhanced rate ends. Then myself take the last 3 months of leave and heading back to work. Working out to 9 months maternity in total between us which would all be coved with pay.
I used this document to work out the above and it seems to match up, but a second pair of eyes never hurts! -

Re: Maternity/Shared Parental Leave Clarification
1st of all I can't believe you used that document from my mrm page!
For full details, ask your manager for a copy of the maternity, paternity, adoption or parental and shared
parental leave policies and guides available in the ‘Policy and information’ section on PSP. Also see Time
off: other leave and Flexible working summaries.
And 2nd, seems right but bar 2 weeks it's all unpaid as you can probably see.
Also see this...
To qualify for leave you must tell your employer in
writing at least 15 weeks before the beginning of
the week when the baby is due or within 7 days of
being told by the adoption agency that you have
been matched with a child. You must tell your
employer:
• when the baby is due or when the child is
expected to be placed with you for adoption;
• whether you want one or two weeks leave;
• when you want the leave to start.
You must give your employer 28 days notice
of the date on which you want your Statutory
Paternity Pay (SPP) to start. You can also change
your mind about the date on which you want your
SPP to start by giving 28 days notice.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Maternity/Shared Parental Leave Clarification
Thanks for the reply,
I'll catch up with my manager tomorrow and ask him to print the documents you mentioned.
I understand I'd get 2 weeks paid paternity leave and then go back to work until my wife goes back to work after 6 months. But from the way I read/interpreted it, if my wife goes back after 6 months there should still be 3 months of SSP at standard rate available to take, which I assumed would be payable to me if I'm the one on leave?

- Would you mind expanding on this a little I feel like I may have missed something here?And 2nd, seems right but bar 2 weeks it's all unpaid as you can probably see.

Re: Maternity/Shared Parental Leave Clarification
I believe you have understood the information correctly. If required further explanation;
https://www.gov.uk/shared-parental-leav ... -youll-get
What you'll get
If you’re eligible and you or your partner end maternity or adoption leave and pay (or Maternity Allowance) early, then you can:
take the rest of the 52 weeks of maternity or adoption leave as Shared Parental Leave (SPL)
take the rest of the 39 weeks of maternity or adoption pay (or Maternity Allowance) as Statutory Shared Parental Pay (ShPP)

Re: Maternity/Shared Parental Leave Clarification
Apologies, I am unaware of the ssp thing and just saw the 2 weeks pay thing.
Please let us know what actually happens for future reference.
Thanks and good luck.

Re: Maternity/Shared Parental Leave Clarification
We had a member do this
Wife had 6m husband 3m + 2 weeks
The 2 weeks was at full pay and the 3 months at statutory which from memory was around £120-130ish
Don’t quote me on the exact figures
