I work at an RDC. Several colleagues on return to work after sickness have been given "Rehab Hours" , Phased return to work, which entails doing fewer hours than a whole shift for a couple of weeks. e.g. do a 4 hour shift a day instead of a 7.4 hour shift.

Welcome back meetings
• On your first day back at work, your manager should hold an informal welcome back meeting with you
within the first three hours.
• During the meeting your manager will check that you’re fit to return to work.
• They will discuss the reason for your absence with you, and make sure you’ve provided the right
certification.
• Where appropriate, your manager will discuss the support that Royal Mail can offer.

Twice i've had leg related injuries(one minor, one serious) The serious one I was off for around 3months with and had a phased return agreed through the doctors and the union( Are you in the Union?) I returned initially just doing indoor work for a couple of weeks to get used to using and spending more time on my feet. Then going out for a few weeks just delivering a couple of bags and taking it steady. My advice is to try get something like this sorted as you want to start using it again but definitely do not want to rush back in to over using it
