Another error by union leaders, agreeing to young slave labour. These are not the genuine apprenticeships of years ago, you can t expect RM as now to be remotely interested in 'training' youth.

No, they will pander to them for a while then they will be in the mix like normal posties.
They can't sign for a duty willy nilly as per the seniority list in their offices.

Its a revamp of The Cadet Scheme that was Introducted a few years ago

Hi everyone, I would like to thank all of the managers at ************** DO for allowing me the freedom and flexibility to spend as much time as needed with ************ our new apprentice, over the last 2 weeks.
For me it was a learning process as well, having so much time with a new joiner instead of the usual 3 days.

I believe that RM (same as any other company) got a payment of 3k per apprentice taken on before end of Sep,
no wonder they were keen to take them on. Think it drops to 1k after 30 Sep.

I am in the process of getting one of these apprenticeships a few says for them to sort out the paperwork then however long it takes to get started. To be honest I still don't really know what the difference between this scheme and just being a postie is gonna be. I hope their won't be any resentment from other postman if they are getting extra time though. I'm still looking forward to it.

I don't get it. Surely this is just RM getting people in on the cheap. After a few weeks training that is you a Postman/woman with nothing else to learn. An apprenticeship implies a trade, a skill that needs nurturing over years to become a craftsman. As we are constantly told this is unskilled work that is well paid (untrue if you are on a 27hr contract). So how does this compute? Unless the apprentices are doing more than being a post person...?

I think there's an element of online training/learning they have to do over the year.

It was a long wait, It was mid august when I had my interview. They told me they would get back to me in a few days. 2 weeks of radio silence and I sent an email they said there where delays. Another 3 weeks and they called me asking if I was still interested, they said good and they will call in a few days to get everything sorted. I'm still not sure if I've definitely got it but they sounded like I did the way they spoke to me on the phone. Overall from when I first applied to my interview was well over a month, and well over a month again to hear anything concrete post interview. Its funny because at the interview the guy said they where hoping to start mid September now its going to be October before I start if I've even got it.
