Absence due to petrol shortage

Colleagues, I wasn’t around during the last petrol shortage crisis, were any arrangements put in place to get employees to work? Was anyone disciplined for not attending work? Was any work left in the office due to the vans running out of fuel? Just wondering

Last time I remember a fuel crisis was early/ mid seventies. I doubt there are many left on the job from that era

1 don’t remember it. My office had its own pumps and there was less reliance on vans then. Just crew buses and bicycles mainly

We have a few vans with no fuel left in them and we dont have our own tank..

I remember it. As you say it was all bikes then so not much of an issue. The vans we had were driven to the mail centre 20 miles away to be filled as they have pumps. Different ball game now.

The question asked was what happens if you cannot get to work because your car has no fuel.

This is a serious question, I’ve got no way of getting to work and it would take about 5 hours to walk to my office and 2 hours to the nearest one , trains not viable either.

Does anyone at all know what royal mails stance is on this ?

I would assume it’s the same as with heavy snow , you would report to your nearest office, don’t understand how public transport wouldn’t be viable.

It won't be viable for anyone who works nights as in most towns there'll be minimal or no public transport late at night
