Workplace coach

So..I've been at royal mail a week ,done my walk once with a guy who whizzed round bit of a blur to be honest,I've now done the walk twice not finished once not even close , manager is on my case already for not finishing I was the last out the office today ...should I be feeling this pressured and wanting to quit after a week??? As for a workplace coach I've never seen one,and this office is understaffed and can't get people to stay..any advice would be great .

No you shouldn't be feeling this pressured and wanting to quit after a week. Are you willing and/or able to do overtime? If so, how much? You need to be clear on these points. Once you've decided that, you go to your manager and tell him/her how much you are able to do. Being understaffed is not your problem.

No you shouldn't be feeling this pressured and wanting to quit after a week. Are you willing and/or able to do overtime? If so, how much? You need to be clear on these points. Once you've decided that, you go to your manager and tell him/her how much you are able to do. Being understaffed is not your problem.

I'm flexible ..he said he can't let me have overtime on this round he's telling me it's a 6 hour round maybe to a seasoned postman ? I dunno maybe indeed.com is the option

If he can't/won't let you have overtime, then it's simple, you finish at your finishing time. You must state this to him. Don't get messed around.

Welcome to RM and sorry that you're not having a great time. We all know it doesn't have to be like this, but it just is.

There's a "advice for new posties" sticky thread at the top of this board, there's helpful info and others like you there.

Sadly the reality is that RM is badly run. Enjoyable job that does get easier, but it still ultimately sucks because of management. If you like the outdoor walking, see if you can stick around for a bit, but if you're after a stress free life, look elsewhere. RM will always be around in some form anyway for you to come back in some years time.

Sadly the reality is that RM is badly run. Enjoyable job that does get easier, but it still ultimately sucks because of management. If you like the outdoor walking, see if you can stick around for a bit, but if you're after a stress free life, look elsewhere. RM will always be around in some form anyway for you to come back in some years time.

Sorry to hear that you`re having a rough time, but it`s par for the course atm. It`s counter-productive for the whole office, to make you feel like this. Prepping a frame you don`t know takes ages, so don`t worry about getting out last. If you quit, the DOM will have to find someone else. What`s the point of that?. Expecting you to do a six hour walk, solo, is madness. State what you can do , and how long you think it will take. If it takes the overtime you are willing to do , so be it. You have a start time and a finish time. Anything else is a management problem.

You are not alone, this is standard Royal Mail management practice.

They don't teach you, and try to make you feel small, then they will use subtle bullying and harassment tactics. So when youre at your wits-end they will manipulate you into doing more work than is reasonably possible

Best skills for a new starter is being able to argue and not back down

And if a manager comes across as being nice, they're probably pulling the wool over your eyes

If you do overtime make sure you get PAID
