Zareena Brown will be joining us next week as our new Chief People Officer. I feel like I have been waiting for months, so it will be great to have her as part of the team.

You might have noticed that her title is not Chief HR Officer but Chief People Officer because we are not about “human resources”, we are a people business.

I have asked Zareena to personally focus on three things :-

• Our trust agenda - we need trust everywhere to re-invent Royal Mail in a harmonious way.

• Diversity - I am determined we perfectly represent the society we serve.

• Prepared to win - which means we have the training and support to be brilliant at our jobs, and have the career opportunities to flourish here.

I must say an enormous thank you to Matt Newman who stepped in to lead the function and of course a thank you to Zareena’s new team who supported him without hesitation.

Matt you can now pass the baton to Zareena knowing you have made great progress in such a short time - thank you.

Draw up "Action Plans" White Board Ideas and have excellent Lunches at the companies expense of course and it's 4 pm please Monday to Thursday Friday probably about 12 pm as well they have a life and weekend unlike the hoi polloi

Yes she will start on a 25 hour contract and after 37 years she will build up enough seniority to become full time.

What’s the likelihood of me meeting her unless she lives on my delivery, which I doubt given the amount of local authority housing ( no disrespect but she’s not going to be living in a one bedroom flat in a high rise ) and orders something that requires me to knock on her door.
