Indoor van sharing work

Can people tell me how their indoor work is done at their office; i.e. Do you have full time paired with full time and part time with part time. Our office has just started van sharing, so two part timers are coming in with nothing prepped just as two full timers are going out. I always thought it should be 1 full timer and 1 part timer together.

The same happens at our office, the majority of the time it will be 1 of each and the odd frame will have 2FT but you get scenarios where certain walks are vacant and they chuck PT staff on it and not everyone can get in early so you're already 1/1.5 hours behind when hitting the streets. I've had it this week and it's been carnage not getting done until 3-4 and you'd just be walking into more the next day if cutting off. Managers don't seem to be fussed you just get the usual I leave it down to the two who are on it etc.

Do the DOMs have any incentive to sort it out when people don't bother cutting off?

Probably not and I'm not looking for sympathy just sharing what it is like in ours. I don't mind the O/T usually but as mentioned when you see vans leaving the yard, as your hitting a frame indoors knowing it's going to be a shitte day, it is frustrating.

We've got the FT+PT mix so the ft preps both, if it turns out a pair of duties have 2 pt at any point then someone else gets allocated to prepping them until the pters arrive, sounds like your manager is taking being s**t to a pretty high level.

Full timer will be bleating he won't be able to get his own done if he doesn't get out early.
So he gets to do as he wants, the manager allows it cos he's gullible/lazy/can't be arsed challenging that position.
Part timer comes in and is royally shafted, just like another half a dozen situations where FT is king.
It really is a joke.

It's a bit of both. Bad management, plus staff not wanting to do fair share.

Our revision was forced in, after objections were made from senior staff that there SHOULD be 2 x full time staff on van share duties (for no operational purpose at all). There was an agreement that no one leaves until everyone is about ready to leave (except for 9am's, business mail etc). We now, predictably have full time staff leaving an hour before part time, with all duties having the same start and finish time on delivery. The more things change......

Of course it is, but at some point there needs to be some kind of break in this culture where part time staff are treated like crap not just by management, but their own colleagues. Most full time staff all wanting to pair up on shared van duties together are doing it for a simple reason. To get out and finish early/ghost.

Totally agree.
We're not though in a culture where staff are going to, dare I say it, do the job they are paid to do, without a gaffer telling them to.
That's just how it is, so managers need to manage if they want change.

i don't see an issue with ft/ft mix if the line manager can actually manage, it should all be indoor work,
1 ft on own paired duty and the other doing something else based on their knowledge, i.e ips scanning tracks or prepping a pt/pt walk up,
unfortunately some abuse it by going on their own when they really should be working elsewhere, especially if naturally they aren't very efficient,
the guy i'm paired with can prep both ours quicker than some do just 1, and ours traditionally get more traffic,
some are then assigned less indoor work to do in the same time based on their ability, so those quicker at doing the job get more to do,
i rarely prep my own now but on a previous duty i was expected prep our own 2 plus put 1 others mail in, when i lost the duty the guy who replaced me was then expected just to prep just his own pairing, simply because i was naturally quicker,
so it's a mix of ability, selfishness and definitely very poor managment that causes issues in the office in my opinion

Exactly.
If a gaffer knows you are quick prepping he'll ask you to do something else as well.
Instead, he should be questioning why the guy next to you isn't as quick as you.
If there's an explanation then fine.
Chances are he's just lazy, or spends his time having a fag or arsing about.
We're all paid the same.
Quite simply, it ain't fair, and the end result is you just think well f##k it.
It's human nature.
