People taking vans home regularly. Fed up.

There seems to be at least 2 guys in my DO who are allowed to take their vans home everyday.

Both of these guys live at least 10 miles from the DO.

Its been happening for a while now and means they're getting free travel costs to work and not having to pay the daily £3 cost of parking in the multistorey - saving them HUNDREDS of pounds a year.

The only reason i can see that they are being allowed to do this is that they both do regular overtime, and taking the vans home is some sort of reward for this.

It sickens me to be honest, and is yet another on the long list of awful management practices in my DO.

Who can i email about this to try and get this to stop?

Its perfectly fine if they are doing overtime, the d.o will probably be closed when they get back and the keyholder will not be getting paid extra to wait for them. How about you do some overtime and you might be able to take a van home too?

Maybe you could ask to stay overnight at their houses, thus you could get a lift from them everyday?
Alternatively don't worry about what others are doing, perhaps they have child care issues that means their partners need to use their cars?

Or you could volunteer to do o/t yourself?

Plenty of people ( including myself) have a van on permanent retention, It frees up space in a very congested yard so it does them and myself a favor.

It is the norm at some places mjd, and £3 per day parking!!

There is a whole host of reasons that van retention is allowed, but I'm sure there are guidelines.
For parking reasons we are allowed a few, but once the trackers got fitted, those that live 5 miles or more away were stopped from doing it anymore.

I do plenty of overtime.

I dont like that theyre getting free travel and not having to pay to park whilst others are paying hundreds each year.

That was the reason retention happened in our place, guess what though, in the mornings they all squeeze the vans back into the yard, thus defeating the whole purpose.

Happens in our office too and tbh maybe good luck to them as I’m not a Royal Mail driver but what really pisses me off is that RM want to take the shirt off your back at any opportunity yet are willing to piss money up the wall on practises like this

Wouldn't take one home even if was offered. I wouldn't want to be in a position where I may feel I owe the company something. I will pay for my own way to work and back thank you.
