Been at Royal Mail over a year now.

Every day is madness. How can a company be so unorganised? Management are absolutely useless. How they got to management is beyond me. Really poor communication skills.

Starting to really grind me down now. Managers make out like it’s your fault that THEY haven’t planned properly. They make you go and sort out their job and put it all on you when it should of been done in the first place!

I’ve tried to be positive about this job but every day is a mental battle. The job itself is actually decent, I like being out but haggling over vans, people being rude when vans not there and going back and forth to management who was supposed to sort it out, when you get a van they’re just full of s**t and half of the vans are knackered.

It takes its toll on your mental health. When you get home you just think of work and stress about next day. I turn 24 in October and already know I couldn’t do the next 40 years in this job.

Find a van and clean it out, I know you shouldnt have to but if everyone dont bother you just end up with s**t vans, take out what you can do in your time and do it, bring the rest back and come home

Promoted to a level of incompetence is nothing new in large organisations.... If you can do your job well then you make yourself indespensible so theres little chance of progression, as if you move on your role then needs to be backfilled and the chances are it will be by someone less able/willing. The upshot is people are deliberately overlooked and ignored. I've certainly come across this in other sectors and whist its a generalism it seems to be more prevalent in highly unionised workforces and old nationalised industries. As an outsider the more I see looking in at these threads the more concerning a picture the inside of RM seems to be.

Im sure some of you will take offence to this comment; but I feel whether your view is that the figures and true state of dissaray are being fudged currently or not, (i couldnt call it either way as Im too remote from the business) but once the truth comes out and the regulator finally uncovers the emporers new clothes then the changes that will happen will be like nothing you can possibly imagine! - Its exactly the same as what happened in the energy sector and ultimately led to full business separation, the regulator putting in tall chinese walls and hefty fines so that one part of the sector cant talk to the other part in what used to one be a seamless vertical operation.... Don't think it wont happen? ... give it time I'm sure it will. - The business will probably loose 30 to 40% of staff along the way, with roles being replaced by new people who are recruited only knowing the new order and have no historic baggage of the old ways.

As I say i feel I'll be shot down here (but its an outsiders view looking in), and hey who I am i but a washed up old has been that cant get a job.... (anywhere!)

It's not to say it's a bad job(I'm enjoying it) but from a business POV It needs to change fast vs competitors, but old contracts for the majority appear to make it neigh on impossible.

Been in nearly 2 years , unless things improve , notice going in sometime next year.
It's just so chaotic from week to week , vacant duties , absorption, lapsing , delivering 2 days of mail etc.
Lack of staff is making the job such a drag , even managers annoyed about it , when you ask them - are they recruiting , there's no clear answer , just waffle , and so the struggle continues

Thankyou - Ive applied for a few jobs but maybe the apathy shown by HR and rejections are a blessing in disguise, back to veg picking for £3 an hr...

It took about 20 years post privatisation in the energy sector before any real progress was made so I agree its years of uphill struggle yet to come!
