Sick of my stomach churning

Post by Postmangit »

Not sleeping most nights through thinking about work the next day, on sertraline for the last 2 years for anxiety & stress I need to go having done 32 years & 58 soon, I’m finding it hard to make the decision & don’t want to let my family down? 😢

Sorry to hear mate. Could you take some time off? It's only going to get busier now in the run-up to Christmas, adding to your stress. I would consider making an appointment with your Doctor.

Can’t say too much as you don’t know who’s on here, but the boss knows my condition but has let me down with a request I made that would have helped immensely. 😞

I understand. To me, it sounds as though you're not in a very good place right now. Perhaps visiting your Doctor might be best, and let him/her assess if you're fit for work at the moment. What do you think?

I may have to, been on these tablets for 3 years or so now, got a resign coming up that may help ? I could leave at the drop of a hat, but like I say I don’t want to let my family down.

Protecting your long term mental or physical health is in fact the complete opposite of letting your family down.

It's a point most of us forget at some stage. The blunt truth is that we're not much use to our family if we're no longer with them.

As above, it's time to start looking after yourself, go see your doctor or speak to RM feeling 1st class who should help you sort things out. Sadly this is the way the job going, there is a lot of pressure that just gets passed down the line to the hard working posties at the bottom of the food chain and it starts taking its toll both mentally and physically.
I wouldn't base your hopes on a revision, I'm not sure any duties are going to get any better. Is going part time an option ? would possibly benefit both you and your family.
Mail may of tailed off a bit but there has been no let up in packets at our place since Covid started and everyone is just exhausted, not to mention the daily issues of lack of staff, unnecessary absorption, unachievable workloads and general low morale.
Good luck buddy hope you get things sorted.

Sorry to hear your not well
I did 38 years with the firm and like you work worries started to rule life then I had to go off sick waiting for surgery.management were useless didn’t give a toss ,the time off made me realise just how little the firm thinks of their staff .
After being off sick for some time and dreading having to return to work I quit.
My family could see how much better I was and convinced me to quit ,honestly it’s the best thing I ever did.
Time is precious it’s the one thing you can not buy remember there are no pockets in a shroud
Good luck for the future

Sorry to hear about you’re recent troubles. I’m currently off myself moth depression. Like you I despair at the prospect of returning to work. I’m asking for a transfer out of delivery as soon as possible. Delivery is extremely stressful never mind the toxic atmosphere. I’ve reached my limit after 21 years. The backstabbing, and infighting bitching and bullying culture that is never addressed. Just get them out the door policy. You know what you need to do my friend. There is more to life than Royal Mail.

I would definitely ring your doctor, explain to them how you feel and that your manager won't agree to do anything that would help your situation. It's like RM drive ppl to go off sick instead of listening and trying to help. :arrrghhh
Also, I highly doubt no matter what your long term choice is your family would be let down, they will want you back to your normal self. All the best my friend. Keep on truckin'. :cool

A few of my friends from another office left with similar issues stress, mental health issues all brought on by the toxic stuff that has gone on daily for years but especially now. Meet them for coffee now and then and they look happier healthier and fresher faced . Doing a slightly lesser paid job now but hey ,,. . Life is short, take care of youreslf.

As everyone is saying mate you and your family are worth more than this I'm sure it is easy for us to say as you are probably caught in that cycle feeling anxious when your there and the anxiety when your not as you know you have to return.
I think after your service you've given so far a visit to your gp and a bit of long term recovery would help and see what the new year looks like for you and if not atleast see if occupational health could help maybe IHR
Look after you and your family remember you are just a number with RM your family are certainly not.

You need to consult your doctor. Your dosage may need to be checked.
Or you may need to change the time you take your medication.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Same here, I also quit 6 months ago after almost 25 years, best decision I made. You don't realise just how much that what's now going on daily in DO's is affecting you mentally and physically until you're out of it. Staying is actually letting your family down, if you do leave see how long it is before your family are saying what a different person you are....for the better!

Totally agree. Go on the sick and spend your time applying for jobs if you can face it. Anything will be better. You must get out before Christmas for your health and your family.
