Seems no repercussions for planners? I guess they don't sign it off? as long as they are all in by Xmas going to be fun times ahead. Surely someone's head is on the chopping block for thus monumental disaster?

Its sounds as though they just ran the route through Georoute, the same as last time then.

Georoute is a reasonable tool but it can only provide quantitative data '+/- 1 hour'. Also the quantitative data of Georoute is hampered by its own programming which does what it thinks is the sensible thing rather than the actual thing. PDA actuals show a reasonable capture of the actual thing but is still only an avatar of reality due to qualitative variables which should, but never do, play a central role in providing a true (ish) resourcing picture.

To put it on perspective, imagine you're planning a route through town and you know that its 15 miles so therefore at 30 MPH you can get through town in 15 minutes. Georoute gets through town in 15 minutes.

Georoute doesn't have to wait at the 10 traffic lights because in Georoute world they were not considered as a qualitative variable and neither was Rush Hour or other peoples accidents blocking the traffic etc.

Thus you plan your trips at 30 MPH and are usually disappointed and this is basically every RM revision.

No surveyor would submit a Georoute analysis without precautionary variables included.

The only thing to do with dishonest 'journey planning' is to roll with it and allow the Micromanagement to take its course, keep your nose clean and PDA actuals are your friend.

I would argue and say that both questions were rhetorical and or both answers were interchangeable.

Who came up with Georoute? Was it the same people that developed Horizon for the post office? :wave

Personally I think before any revised job is signed off, the manager should go out with union rep and make sure the job is achievable in time allocated

They will promise you they will be reviewed but they rarely are. The only way out of this cock up in my opinion is going to be another revision.

Well then they will keep losing staff and will be forever locked in a loop of interviewing/hiring/finding a replacement when the newbie leaves, when he/she finds out that their working hours were not as promised.

I'm a month in and my route is the worst in the office (so I've been told by many people). Everyday I want to leave because I can't get it done in time. A newbie who started along with me was put on a piss easy round.. he's done by 1pm!! I'm working over 40hrs/wk on a 20hr contract. What a shambles

Is this a job you picked in the revision? There should be part time and full time walks so it doesn’t make much sense.

They will just leave u on it if your completing it so your only option if u don’t want the extra hours is to cut off everyday, they will soon move you off it if u start doing that everyday, it’s a constant battle though. RM don’t care about people leaving, it’s a constant issue out ours. As a business case it makes no sense.

No consolation that the logistics network review also seems to be a disaster. Still the empty legs that were supposed to be reduced, the VOCs all sending resources to do each other’s work, usual lack of running time and still no time allocated to move bays after unloading in one place, to load from a different area of building. Duties that have been cobbled together so poor at my office even the most senior drivers struggling to find something they’d want to do ! P’haps they’ll retire and we can all move up the list ! ! !

We've had at least 1 empty leg added. Don't know if they're on the final timings but if they are, we get a large chunk of our work in later, which makes me think that our start and finish times and dispatch times (especially the final one) will get put back later in the near future
