Simon's Letter - hint at 'Timed and Tracked Deliveries/Collections'?

Post by Acca Dacca »

''Very soon you will hear about a new Royal Mail App making it even easier for our customers to manage their parcel collections. I will keep the full details confidential for now ( wonder why? ) but we are very excited about how this will increase 'trust at the doorstep' even further''

Now this seems to have went under the radar a bit thanks to the 'clear your office not just your frame' line but to me this seems to be alluding to something akin to what DPD have; the Royal Mail App wouldnt just be for parcel collections but for deliveries too.

Mentioning 'trust at the door step' being increased could point at having our names and photos put into the system like at DPD - 'John is at stop number 28 of 100, you are number 34'

'John likes Rock music and flyfishing in his spare time'

Are we on the road to being tracked round our duties by not just the powers that be, but by the recipient customers too? Making an already increasingly stressful job even moreso?

This would be very good as it would have inbuilt times for each parcel and would factor in your finish time.
At the moment in our DO drivers are given an unmanageable workload so this would in theory straighten that out

App could also read
‘John is at stop 28 of 100 , you are number 29
- your parcel has been retained as it was only a 2D barcode and John might cut off so his boss has told him to concentrate on Tracked parcels only.
You will probably now get your parcel in 7 days’

This i can only guess will be for parcel only deliveries. With part timers having to prep rounds and often starting at different times, plus variable letter and D2D loads, this just won't work whatever they try.

I'm all for a better business, but this needs some serious planning.

Also, CharlesG :left: that comment made me chuckle

Very slowly there seems to be an increasing number of letters being sent as Tracked

I know the Moonpig ones often come through as tracked, but those are on the LATs. I've not seen many letter tracked, but i've seen a couple on rounds. But obviously your observations in the warehouse are worth more than what i can see at the delivery end.

All the Moonpig here has to come in on the normal runs as our final runs to the DOs go at 06:30. Anything after that and the DOs will have to send one of their own vans to collect it from the MC

I can see stuff like this happening more like a DPD style of delivery, the only thing is it's likely to be in 10 years.
It's not going to be anytime soon just because RM take an absolute age to move forward in anything that can be seen as progress.
Just think of all the planning, tech etc we can't even get revisions in on time and still have the same problems we were talking about 10 years ago.

Unfortunately for John he doesn't have any spare time , due to his unmanageable workload.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
