Time Off In December?

Hi all. Apologies in advance if I'm putting this in the wrong place. Tried a search on this and couldn't find an answer, so thought I'd go straight to the source.

Basically I'm wondering if there are any circumstances where a postal worker can be permitted time off in December. I'm told that it's a no-go, but after ten years of being fine with that, I need to be away for 6 days this year. Just thought I'd check with the hive mind to see if I have any options.

Manager's discretion is probably the answer. Classic HR rinsing of any responsibility. Ask the union rep or is he hiding with Terry

See if anyone has a week in four or six off on the week You need and see if You can do some kind of swap maybe if Your stuck?

Unless it's your wally week, you're plain out of luck. Dec is Xmas pressure when there's always been a blanket ban on any leave being taken

Will depend on the reason and how understanding your Dom is. We’ve had a couple of people allowed time off during the pressure period in recent years to get married so a Dom must be able to authorise it.

Seen too many over the years taking the piss with sick an it has come back to bite them with the sack. so that is why i said poor advice.

It may be good advice in your office, but not everyone has your managers.

Managers do lurk on here, so even posting that advice on RMC, is not advisable, because if they want ammunition, you just gave them some. After all managers tend to move on, and they always have a career ladder to climb.

However:

And I agree. It's poor advice. What if you've already requested your time off to your manager and/or mentioned it to your co-workers? When the day comes that you want to start your time off and instead call in sick, it'll raise suspicions.

And think of your Return To Work interview. You'll have to be a good actor to try and fool your manager who may try and catch you out. I've heard it's happened to those who've tried it before.

It reminds me of this similar scenario:

Postie: "Sir, I need to take bereavement leave. My paternal grandpa passed away."
Manager: "Didn't your paternal grandpa pass away last year?"
Postie: "Oh...umm... I mean my maternal grandpa."
Manager: "But didn't your maternal grandpa pass away the year before that?"
Postie: "Ah...hmmm. Uncle? Step-sister? Ummm... my cat?"

Basically, save yourself the trouble and stay honest, man.
