Clock IN & OUT

Post by on_the_way_OUT »

Manager has hinted that this is coming in early next year.
Is that likely?
What happens if you genuinely finish early i.e. light Monday/Tuesday do they/can they dock your pay?
There's talk of banking hours over a monthly period OR any under work coming out of your holiday entitlement.

Our union rep knows nothing.
Cheers

Simple solution really. If you get back early just ask a manager for more work to do until finish time. There is zero chance I will be scanning out a minute early when this comes in, don’t trust them one bit.

They will say they won’t dock pay.
Which means you can be sure they will dock pay.

Dock your pay if clock-in early, but I bet it won't work the other way when your 10-15 mins late getting back.

sooner the better imo , and they might be saying that now but when they see what time some are finishing and how much dims are paying out in ghost o/t that will change , so i think all the early starters who do it for free need to give there heads a shake and wake up and start doing the job right.

It will inevitably lead to an attempt to introduce variable hours into delivery offices.
Daily hours will be driven by the variation in workload.
It's probably a few years away but it will come.
It's lapsing 2.0 where it's not the workload that's lapsed but your work hours, it's a far more efficient system.

Like anyone else who's ever punched the clock, you clock out at your shift finishing time, never before.
No employer is going to allow employees to regularly clock out before their finish time without some form of sanction being applied as they haven't completed a full shift.

It's been like that in MCs for a few years now. Surprised that RM havn't already brought it in at DOs

That's actually not true at all, in the construction and building industry it's common practice to knock off the job if there's no more work to be done, it's the same in most industries where there is variable workload. Usually without sanction or the mostly informal agreement that on the days when the workload stretches beyond finish time it's not acceptable to just bugger off home.

We in delivery at least are in this curious half assed position where workload varies on a daily basis so short of having people standing about doing nothing until their finish time it's not that simple is it?

Workload/hours management is the key not dogmatic systems that don't add value to the company and simply means people are being paid to be idle.

Have you ever not been paid the full shift because there wasn't enough work?
So it's not really like that in MCs at all is it?
MCs vary the resource to match the workload, they don't vary your pay. Casuals yes but that's a different ball game

Simple, it will be that the next nearest unit is struggling, take a van over there and deliver a street for them.

Thanks for the replies people... . With the best will in the world even RM don't really know what the workload is going to be on a daily basis. They expect Tuesday to be early and then the local council decide to mail everyone something. RM will get less than 24 hrs notice as it enters the system. Friday is ment to be a heavy day but its really hot and people decide to go the beach rather than send letters & order
parcels. You finish 45 mins early..... what do you do sit in a cafe for 45 mins with the PDA Actuals reporting as such or go back to the office and sit in the canteen? A lot of the time there just isn't the extra work to take you to your time.
RM will want to cut your pay on the light days yet not pay extra for the heavy ones.

As usual, apples and oranges.
RM isn't anything like construction etc where concrete pours etc can over-run well into the night, and flexibility from the workforce is expected. RM tend to work regular organised hours from the same place of work and with similar workloads on most days, as do most employees who clock on.
I can well imagine posties happily taking an early finish on light days, but I can't see anyone being too happy if they were told that due to a very heavy day no-one's going home for another three hours. RM has never worked like that.
One of the aspects of clocking on is knowing who is (or ought to be) in the building, handy for both safety and who is available for work, so if people are going to come back early and clock off, that's lost.
You really believe management will put up with that for long especially when there's work that could be done?

You get some office people who do the forecast for your office then you get someone else who "moderates" the forecast figures.
They don't need to know who's in the building, role call during building evacuations was zed a few years ago
