Seniority and job shares

Post by gwells »

We're having a revision in our office and I've been told I'd have to consider a job share to keep my days but lose 1 hour of my working week. Where do I stand in regards to seniority when picking a job ? I've got 20 plus years in but the other person has only just started. My manager said that it goes of the person with the least seniority, is this right?

I'm a bit confused by your post but there's no version of seniority where anything goes to anyone with the least.

you share the senior mans duty surely  how many hours does this give you each might be the norm in the near future due to the length of outdoor work

Sorry I'll try and explain things abit better. I'm on 20hrs wed, Thurs and Sat. Me and the person sharing would both go down to 19hrs. We are both leave reserves currently and if a job was available that we both like the look of then I'd put in for it. I'd keep my days and the other person works the other days.
Seniority has always been king in this place so I was abit taken aback by my manager saying it would go on the person with less seniority in the job share, specially as they've only been in the job 5 minutes. I just fancied being on a duty instead of being f****d about most weeks.

I'd be confused as well! I think your DOM Is talking out of his ass. Seniority is Seniority. The only time you can Trump this is if one of you had been "Displaced" from another duty. In which case that OPG would get first pick of another duty ... ahead of more Senior OPGs.

Take it up with your Rep see what he says. If you're not happy with his answer go over his head and ring your local CWU Office. :cuppa
