Xmas Eve arrangements? Are there any?!

And a Merry Xmas to all....
Now that's out of the way, can anyone tell me what arrangements they have in place for Xmas Eve this year? Why do I ask? Well, originally we were told (and I hope we have it in writing somewhere...will be searching for it later!) that we would be working Saturday hours on the 24th but today a large amount of mail has arrived in our office (after a relatively quiet week). A lot of mail remains unsorted so management are getting folk in on Sunday to do parcels and prep mail for Monday as their expecting another vast amount to arrive then too. Obviously, I want to be going home to my family so I won't be doing any O/T myself but I just wondered if any other delivery offices are suffering the same problems?

We have from our elustrious leader it is a normal day and you will stay out and deliver the mail and while that was spat out from our leader his side kick who loves him dearley has spent all this morning repeating what hitler said earlier,the mail in our office has been hidouse all week and its learching from one cock up to another and thats just the managment.

Nothing's been said about finishing time on Monday - expect normal day.
Much bigger problem - management screwed up leave arrangements and we will be 40+ people short on Monday! That's in a delivery office of about 300.

We have been told that we are working Saturday hours i.e. 05:15 - 11:45 (including breaktime) with night duties in to prepare as much mail as they can to get us away for Christmas as early as possible.

Weve been told that its a normal working day.The collection staff however will be doing 8 hrs 8am till 4pm, doing sat style collections & clearing packets/walks. If anyone is on leave from 24th they have to come in Monday & get the day given back to them.You do not have to come in if it's your allocated day off.

They want me start at 8am rather than my usual start time of 11am...I haven't stopped laughing since! Told them I am starting my normal time of 11am! They can f**k right off!

It always has been a short day but they have screwed up big time and were panicking on saturday. Bet they try to tell us it's a normal day we too are loads down due to a/l they tried to get those on leave to come in by the usual threats and intimidation but failed as the union were up in arms as it's a/l.
i'm not going over my time for these arseh*les dare say it will be some fun tomorrow

hi its not effecting me because its my long weekend but at our office(harlow) if you have got the chirstmas week booked
as holiday the have said that you have to work on monday 24th

i cut off on saturday and the manager told me to leave the excess work in the frame....they can go f**k themselves if they think im gonna take out the excess mail from saturday on monday...

Normal day for us 05.30-15.30,will see what comes in,hopefully managers will leave all mailsort untill Thursday

Its good to see that the RM management have planned for XMAS. I told my line manager to talk to the area manager about XMAS in AUGUST. Because it was obvious on line shopping was going to explode.

We delivered, over the summer, hundreds and hundreds of broadband routers. So it was safe to assume that these people would get into online shopping wasn t it????

Try explaning that to the knumbnuts in charge. All they worry about is getting the mail out on that day and cannot use all of their

'management skills'

to forward plan.

A shrug of the shoulders and now we are paying vast amounts of overtime on Sunday to clear a back log that could have been avoided.

Thats exactly what i got when i told my manager i would have no choice but to cut off on Christmas Eve... a shrug of the shoulders.

i was told that overtime HAD to be done, no breaking off then he read me section 9 i think he said it was in the contract i class that as b/h but was informed if i broke off over the xmas period i would be done for wilful delay

Can we get some clarification on this from a union rep as i think royalmail/management will try this on tomorrow lets be prepared for the worst!.

Classic bullying and harassment technique, as used by Royal Fail dunderheads, or Doms as they like to be known. The day will never arrive when a DOM tells me what to do in MY own time.
You stick to your guns, mate. Overtime is NOT compulsory, your dunderhead, errr, I mean DOM, can tell you what to do while your doing your 8 hours,
but beyond those 8 hours he can only ASK you to do overtime.

I dunno, managers.
