Are we still job and knock,are we clocking in or out,or are we working till time for everyone, this area is so sketchy no one actually knows where they stand,in our office some are allowed home early some are made to stay to time ,favouritism,ageism,discrimination is rife ,i just wish the whole company would be the same then we would all know where we stand,could any union rep tell us anything on this topic because its driving me to the nut house .

In the Pathway to Change agreement it is stated all paid hours for all staff will be fully utilised. In practise this is hard to achieve and still hit quality of service targets.

Tbh it depends on your DOM as to whether you can knock off early or have to work up to your time right now.

Is a double edged sword in my opinion as i’ve seen both sides. If you are told to do your duty and 2/3 rounds of lapsing between office and then go home after many would rush around and maybe clear it all with 30Mins+ left of duty time.
If your told to do your round then 2/3 rounds of lapsing between office But if you come back early you will be sent back out then there is no real incentive to finish early and you may aswell leave your lapsing because if you do job properly you might not have time

So yeah, its different from office to office
Id say get into habit of working your hours, doing job properly, taking breaks and starting on time.

On scanning in / out machines i believe they are on trial in certain places now and could be rolled out by end of year. Could be dangerous for certain offices with future revision activity if showing a big amount of hours that could be better utilised

Basically left open to be abused and harassed by managment,roll on the clocking in and out machines but i bet the chosen few will still go home early.

Quite clearly still going home today for example we had two guys off sick and they were asking people to cover these walks on overtime yet they were full timers getting back literally at 12, 2 hours before there time, they let them go home but pay overtime to people to cover there walks! It makes no sense

Cronyism/nepotism is rife in this company. Because of this rm management and executives are some off the dimmest people you’ll ever meet, it took a pandemic/other businesses forced closures to enable Royal Mail to turn a profit.

No joke here but I’ve done some of the high senior guys duties in our office, took my time didn’t rush at all. Kid you not they take 3 hours on a Wednesday when other duties take 5. Got our revision coming up soon and I’ll bet my mortgage the top 15 guys delivery’s won’t get changed. They are protected until retirement and it’s wrong.

You have obviously got a BIG problem in your office. I take it your Unit CWU Rep is not that effective? Don't tell me you haven't got one? RMs pushing really hard now for Delivery to be more Effective (especialy with the SWW coming in), and for DOMs to utilise all paid hours. So in layman's terms they want EVERYONE to be working all the hours they're getting paid for. We do however have a high percentage of "Managers" that don't seem willing, or able, to "Manage" and I believe that's half the problem. It's basically just anything for a quiet life and go home early, and they don't want the hassle of confronting some posties who are basically taking the piss.

Your DOM should be looking at all these guys coming back hours early and realising he needs to give them so more work, preferably taking it off the duties that are going over. He can use the data from PDAs to help plan these changes plus the signing in sheets.

I know what you're getting at because we've just had a revision and the majority of the workforce are giving it a go, and just getting on with it. However there's a small percentage of "Senior" Posties that just constantly badger the DOM about every little thing that effects "Them", moaning about how hard done by they are. In the past this constant whinging has worked and the DOMs taken work off them ... so you can see how they believe this is the way to act, like spoilt Children.

I don't believe Trade Unionism has anything to do with members shitting on their colleagues and it really needs to be sorted.

Believe it or not our office is the complete opposite with senior posties finishing later than the junior guvnor in their pocket grades. That besides regardless of who finishes before who in my opinion when scanning in and out becomes the norm DOMs will be under pressure to get people scanning out within 10 mins of returning to the office so that they can get all the data they need to add even more delivery points to duties and cut more hours from offices. So those who do finish early enjoy it while it lasts the net is closing in.

Our office turns a blind eye to posties finishing early and I believe most managers consider it fair dinkum if they are doing extra lapse


Against the backdrop of the business wanting to reduce our working week I can't see posties finishing early as too much of a problem.

Those posties who are absolutely killing it by coming back like 2 or even 3 hours before their finish time might raise a few eyebrows but I guess its more the exception rather than the norm.
