For an uncle I think you would have to swap day off.

Re: Day off for a funeral
Bereavement (other family members and friends): It’s an upsetting time when someone close to you
passes away. Managers will do their best to allow you time to deal with your loss.
• Your manager can provide you with up to one week’s paid leave for immediate family, e.g. next of kin or
blood relative (spouse, civil partner, child, parent or sibling), to support you during this difficult time.
• If a member of your family, e.g. grandparent or parent-in-law passes away, your manager can give you one
day’s paid leave to attend the funeral.
I would say that your uncle is a member of your family so it is paid leave to attend the funeral.
None of these rules can be hard and fast. Families can be difficult.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The guide is here...
Time off: other leave
Time off: other leave

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Unfortunately the guide is vague.
It says " if a member of your family, e.g. grandparent or parent-in-law, passes away"
But it doesn't specify other relatives that might be included in that.

Condolences to the OP.
Personally, if I had a highly stressful situation going on at home, I’d take the matter into my own hands and phone in with a paid for, self certified sick absence citing stress.

Despite how close you could be to your Uncle, there is this...
You will at least get the time off.For wider family or friends, you can agree with your manager whether to swap shifts, make up the time,
take unpaid leave or holiday.

Re: Day off for a funeral
lol, going back a fews years but they changed my day off when i told them i needed a day off for my mothers funeral to suit them
i didn't really need to but took a whole week off just for their attitude to piss them off, also got a snotty voicemail left asking why i wasn't in work too! this was back in the day when we thought lino's and doms were ok
my contempt for any managment has remained since
