Getting told conflicting things about same day seniority

Post by cheerful »

Another postie and myself started on the same day.

We've both signed for the same walk.

I've been told by two managers and a former union rep that the oldest person gets the walk.

The Dom has contacted HR and been told they use a point system from our interviews to see who scored highest.

A short 2013 document called "Seniority - Guide for employees" says:
Following the Age Regulations in October 2006 the sequence will be:
any periods of Royal Mail Group service on other grades, i.e. longest total Royal Mail Group service first,

Date of written confirmation offering employment, earliest first

If still equal then - date of interview, earliest first

If still equal then - date of test, earliest first
- I'm 90% sure I didn't get a letter confirming the offer of employment, just an email (which I assume would have been sent to the other postie on the same day)
- It's possible we had interviews on different days, I think they did them over a couple of weeks
- from the context I assume the "test" it mentions is the computer test done at the start of the application (it asks you a bunch of personality questions like "Rate which is most important, speed or accuracy", followed by a series of "spot the difference" with addresses / barcode numbers. "Test" could mean the big van driving test, but I presume that wouldn't be included, since I don't think that is done at some offices?).

Is the above document still accurate? Getting points from the interview seems weird, but plausible.

Yes the guide holds the field. Which I will now put in downloads as we usually quote the way forward agreement.
Cheers

Edit: Long thread here with the guide in as well. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=96314
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Not one to start a bun fight again but that document also says that seniority should NOT be used for the allocation of annual leave except to possibly allocate people into groups so how much faith I would put in a document that appears to mean bugger all to both sides is debatable.

It’s whoever got offered the job first, HR will know that.
