Can anyone explain these new contract hours for new jobs.

Post by postiewhite »

My gf has applied to RM on a 26hr contract 0930-1430, this is a temp position until feb 22. The vacancy came off the site and then a day later another position came up at the same DO, 08-30-1300, 25hr contract and on a permanent contract 😳. Well for a start im unsure why they would advertise a job that finishes at 1pm and not only that ive just looked at other vacancies up and down the country and the start and time finishes vary so much, some have start times at 1pm-7pm.? Some vacancies include Sundays (which is understandable) and some still have them Mon to Sat only.

Can anyone shed any light why some of these contract start times are all over the place with some being afternoons only?

It's just what figures work out on paper for management, HR, etc.

Hours and times seem to be quite meaningless in my office. If the work is there the job is secure, if it isn't an she's not permanent, be sure to have a backup plan.

I think the usual case is the temp contracts go permanent. It was just the difference in contract hrs I was mainly querying.

99.99% of the time the TOA in the job adverts mean nothing.

Managers will suck up for a starter on some silly hrs contract, knowning full well it's bollox and chances are more hrs and staff are needed ect.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
