Shared van duties

Post by DaintyDiva »

We're still being told 2 in a van isn't allowed so how come staff at our office are being put through their changeover :no no so as per usual it's one rule for the management & one rule for us. It's ok for someone to be in a van with a driving assessor for 5 hours but not ok for 2 fully vaccinated colleagues to be in a van for 10 minutes together. Hypocrisy at it's very best :arrrghhh

Our work place coach is going out in the van with new starters and also new starters just going out in the van without doing the changeover apparently it's not needed now due to covid.

According to our DOM we are still not allowed to share vans. Even if training another postie on a new walk we have to use two vans where vans are used! So I guess that is still RM official policy.
I was thinking we might go back to sharing vans on June 21st but with Boris Johnson continuing to put money before lives, and an alleged 20,000 Indians arriving in the UK before the gates were closed, we are now heading for many more deaths and a fourth full lockdown.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Even with 2 jabs you are not fully vaccinated, with new strains you will need to be jabbed for ever.

Yep we'll be chasing our tails with this one I'm afraid...we'll never be more than 6-12 months away from the needle...although over time they might evolve to have boosters in tablet form.

Shared vans are not allowed at the moment, driving without going through a change over is also not allowed.

Can we continue with driving training and driver coaching through Pertemps and Advanced Driver Coaches?
All the details on our revised driver training requirements are available by clicking on the Link. (It's an Intranet link which can't be accessed outside RM so I don't know what it says.)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Probably wrong.
I'd say more like two or three years between vaccinations to cope with emerging variants once this year is over.
There are only a limited number of mutations in the spike protein that can occur whilst maintaining infectivity.
This has become evident by the separate emergence of the same mutations in different parts of the world, which go on to be the dominant form.

Any more time than that in a sherpa would have your arms pumped up and your body rattled to death. Hated those vans.

Thought driver training is due to start again 'imminently' (LTB 188/2021):
Following discussions with Royal Mail, the following ‘Covid-Secure, Covid-Safe’ key in-cab training safety controls were agreed:

Driver In-Cab Training Covid-Secure Safety Controls:

In-cab driver training will now recommence in all vehicle types imminently. To ensure the safety of both our drivers and instructors, RMG and CWU have agreed to follow instructions set out in a reviewed Risk Assessment and Safe Working Instructions. These include (key points):

Drivers and instructors to take a Lateral Flow Device test within the two days prior to training.
Both driver and instructor to wear a ‘new on the day’ Royal Mail branded, 3-ply face covering.
The vehicle must always be ventilated.
Touchpoints must be cleaned both before and after the session.

The dedicated Risk Assessment and Safe Working Instructions have been updated to reflect the change in the control measures. (Copies are attached).

Following conclusion of the health and safety consultation process, agreeing to put the above list of controls in place, it was concluded that those undertaking this training are at no greater risk than any other employees currently working for Royal Mail, undertaking other work and functions.
