What’s the rules/guidelines on delivering in hot weather. Particularly to the part timers being made to deliver mail between the hottest part of the day 3-4:30 pm.

The severe weather policy should kick in, if you have an H&S rep push them to do a Risk Assessment, in fact after viewtopic.php?t=97141 Royal Mail should be doing it without being told.

I've just read the letter mentioned above and it absolutely made my piss boil, so the DO manager involved just ticked off that they'd made loads of allowances for the severe hot weather but really did fuk all, disgraceful !

Keep hydrated, but not too hydrated as you are out there for 5 hours with no toilet facilities

I'll be mentioning the Severe Weather Warning Procedure to my DOM tommorrow. Perhaps you could Bump this Letter TBT .... bearing in mind the forecasted Hotter weather?

At the end of the day its each to their own survival strategy since nobody else is going to do it for you/us and nobody else cares.

So, I suggest to do what people in hot climes do which is to avoid having skin exposed to sunlight and to keep hydrated.

Get a light coloured natural-fibre cap (the RM dark headware absorbs heat*) with a flap at the back, drinking water plus a spray-bottle of water to spray your wrists, legs and neck etc once and hour in a shady spot for 5 minutes and the long sleeved blue shirt with sleeves down. Plus a bite of proper nutrition.

Sounds a bit counter-intuitive but its how I've done it in the past and it works well....keeps you coooler.

*whoever designed, ordered and issued black headware for summer heat should be shot.

I think appropriate headgear is a good idea. A Light Coloured Breathable "India Jones" Style hat does me! Plus loads of fluid.

Surely you don't believe those weather girls SP? You've got to get out of that Mail Centre more often mate. We work on the basis of: "What's the weather like? .... Wait until you get out on Delivery and have a look"! Always throw your Storm Coat inthe van .... AND take your Sun Block & Sun Hat .... just in case.

We can have very contrasting weather across the town. It can be really pissing it down with rain in one part of town and just a couple of miles away in another part of the town it can be bone dry with no sign that it's ever rained
