21/04/21 Mount Pleasant Bulletin

Post by jimallen »

Hi! Find below the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 21 April. You'll also find it in pdf version to download, with front page editorial. Comments are welcome!

RECRUIT THEM!
We haven't seen the number of parcels going
down, so why have agency workmates stopped
coming in? Is it because after 12 weeks,
management has to upgrade their pay to our
level?!

MANAGERS' LIGHT-HEADED SOLUTION
And so who do they send to replace the lack of
hands on parcels? Mates who are on light duties!
Obviously these managers couldn't care less about
the parcels getting sorted...

WHAT THEIR WORD IS WORTH
Now we're told that on primary letters and flats,
we're going to be permanently crammed in that
little corner on the ground floor. Yes, after
management gave their word it was going to be
temporary. In the meantime, they keep repeating
like well trained parrots that letters have gone
down. But they still need sorting, don't they?

NEED HELP COUNTING?
And why aren't there enough letter frames for all of
us to work on? Can't managers count beyond 10?
So are we supposed to just sit down and have a
cup of tea until they sort out their mess? Not a
bad idea. And probably that will help them
remember their 11, 12, 13...
PS: By the way, did we hear correctly? That union
officials suggested to management that some of us
be given medical retirement? But that's what
management wants, not us! Have they forgotten
who they represent?

THEY CUT THE JOBS
Because our mates on Nights can't finish
processing the extra-workload coming from the
mayoral election leaflets, it's down to the morning
shift to finish the job! Yep, RM can't even plan to
get the election leaflets sorted on time. At this
rate, the mayoral elections will have to be
postponed.

KNOCK-ON EFFECT
Why do we have to wait an extra hour in the
morning, before we can start our delivery walks,
just because of this cock-up due to managers' job
cuts on nights... It's fine to have a cup of low tea
while we wait, but it makes us late for high tea...

SHORTER WALKS, NOT LONGER
So we've said goodbye to our mates in EC
deliveries, who took deserved EVRs a couple of
weeks ago. As for managers who think they can
merge our retired mates' walks to ours, they better
think again...

LET'S BE PREPARED
We're waiting to see what the re-sign is going to
look like in Distribution, which is coming our way in
a couple of weeks. But we already know what to
expect. Management has already talked about
"realignment of duties", which is their BS for
"changing hour patterns and cutting jobs". They
better not push their luck too far...

WE KNOW WHAT'S COMING
Yes, the new "management team" at HMP are wet
behind the ears... they think they can introduce
changes at will. Well, we're not prepared to go
along with these upstarts, no matter what top
union officials agreed behind our backs in the
"Pathway Down Hill".

THE PATHWAY WE NEED TO FOLLOW
About 100 workmates walked out at the
Bridgewater DO (Somerset) to defend their sacked
mate, who was going to retire in a matter of weeks!
We wish them a good fight and we hope that their
mate is reinstated. And yes, the only way to teach
managers who's really in charge, is by using our
feet!

THAT'S OUR MONEY!
RM's expecting £700m profits this year, doubling
from last year. That's more than £1bn profit in the
past 2 years! Yes, RM's making a killing from
parcels thanks to our sweat, blood and tears. And
we don't want to hear about their paltry £90
dividends in September - most of us got rid of our
RM shares anyway. It's about time we saw our
due "dividend" consolidated in our pay!

CAN'T WAIT
And by the way, we cleaners are still waiting to
hear when our pay is going to reach the minimum
that the Living Wage Foundation proposes - now
£10.85/hr. Waiting till 2022 isn't OK! The cost of
living is rising all the time!

INDOOR TANNING
What's up with those lights they've installed above
revenue and the Jumbo Dumbo? They're as bright
as the sun! Are we going to be provided with dark
glasses now?

Traffic forecasting is now done nationally and not locally. And both parcels and Tracked have dropped off a lot over the last week

What format are they? If they're D2D then they should only enter the MC, the boxes/bundles get sorted to yorks for each DO and then straight on the lorries

Work in distribution elsewhere, we also have an upcoming repick. I'd be interested in how things go at your place, duty changes, Evr's etc.
I feel there's a big disconnect between the union and its members, we're starved of information and, notwithstanding the covid outbreak, we never have union meetings. Information comes through slowly, normally by Chinese whispers.
Would be good to here how you get on.

Someone in MP must have found an old copy of the Student's Yearbook from 1970 judging by those tired old potted comments on NI.

Everybody who I talk to says the union are more managers than what the managers are, I only stay in the union because you never know what is round the corner with all he back stapping going on
