Contract Hours Made Up
How does R.M stand on contract hours made up, two guys in our office on 25 hr contracts last 2-3 years , yet working 40-45 hrs each week , my thinking was if you do the BIG hrs for so long a time period, you got made up automatic..any one know the answer.....

It isn’t automatic but should be reviewed after 6 months I believe.

Re: Contract Hours Made Up
Isn't it the most senior PT that gets first dibs on being made up to full time?

Re: Contract Hours Made Up
Same in our office we have guys on 20 hours contract doing ips from 530 and working till job finish about 3 o’clock! They’re working twice there contracted hours yet when on holiday go back to 20 hours, it’s a piss take and union aren’t doing anything about it

I'm on 30 and have done 50 - 60 hours a week for years now and have basically been told there's no chance of being made up.

but yet the company will still keep employing 20/25 contracts when they could use those hours to make you up to 38Seymour Buts wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021, 16:56I'm on 30 and have done 50 - 60 hours a week for years now and have basically been told there's no chance of being made up.

Re: Contract Hours Made Up
Because they know there's benefits to it. Like the upcoming Sunday parcel deliveries. Signing up to that is basically the only way many will get full time, and there's those desperate enough to do it. It's just annoying because I do early morning ips every single day so our office needs more full timers, yet they refuse. It's beyond our managers to be fair, our DOM is moaning constantly we haven't got enough but those above are refusing to allow them to make contracts up.

Re: Contract Hours Made Up
It doesn't matter if you're working 70 hours a week the most senior part timer who may be doing no overtime will be offered increased contractual hours first. Part timers are hired because if someone is given voluntary redundancy I. E. A full time position becomes redundant they legally cannot hire a full timer/make hours up in place otherwise they shouldn't have been made redundant!

Re: Contract Hours Made Up
How many posties are being given VR anyway? We've got posties leaving to work elsewhere in our DO but still only p/t contracts are being offered, when there's clearly enough hours for f/t positions. It all seems a bit odd to me how RM works, why recruit posties to work p/t hours then pay them 10/20 hours o/t a week, any other company would just recruit staff on a f/t basis.picture123 wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021, 21:02It doesn't matter if you're working 70 hours a week the most senior part timer who may be doing no overtime will be offered increased contractual hours first. Re: Contract Hours Made Up
Have people ever been made redundant? Voluntary and medical are different to compulsery, I think. The reason they recruit part timers is because like many companies nowadays, it gives them flexability in quiet times if those full time hours ain't required and they know they'll be people willing to do additional hours to top up their contracts to full time.picture123 wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021, 21:02It doesn't matter if you're working 70 hours a week the most senior part timer who may be doing no overtime will be offered increased contractual hours first. Think I remember reading it was the early to mid 2000s when RM started putting the need to drive in all new contractsP13 wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 11:30Because they didn't have to drive when they joined Royal Mailqwerty2 wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 11:19not if you dont drive!SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑09 Apr 2021, 20:14Isn't it the most senior PT that gets first dibs on being made up to full time?

Re: Contract Hours Made Up
It sounds like that is the carrot that is going to be dangled in front of our part timers over the next few weeks. I have also heard there could be a cash lump sum offered to existing full time staff to vary their contracts to include sundays if they don’t get enough takers from the PT’sSeymour Buts wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021, 20:28Because they know there's benefits to it.
