2 Covid home tests for everyone
How the hell are we going to cope with this?

Probably will be by request and most people will not bother because they think the vaccine stops you from getting the virus!

Even if the take-up is small it will still add a lot of bulk to daily workload, and you can guarantee the ones ordering them regularly will be the customers with stupid small or slimline letterboxes
Anyone remember when the government gave free energy saving lightbulbs to every address, we had the office full with them for weeks.

You can only just manage with 15-20 of them at a push... 200-300 on your walk! especially if they are still treated as tracked/specials

I think they are relying on people collecting the kits from the now numerous local council run testing stations, at least in England, though delivery through the post will be an option.

Re: 2 Covid home tests for everyone
Why the mass testing now?
Is it to actually keep restrictions in place?

Re: 2 Covid home tests for everyone
We are in the middle of the largest mass vaccination ever undertaken in this country.
It would be a bit silly not to find out..
A) If it simply reduces severe symptoms.
or
B) If by reducing symptoms it also reduces transmission rates.
That's a question that must be answered in order to open up the country completely.
The reason you need to mass test now is because if only A is true fewer people will have symptoms so fewer people will put themselves forward for testing, it will look like the transmission rates are falling but that won't actually be true.
It's just that the number of symptomatic cases will be falling but asymptotic cases will be rising.

Surely at work testing must be the next step for everyone in "key Worker" Jobs bet Royal Mail will not want this because of the risk of having to send people home from work

Re: 2 Covid home tests for everyone
They have been doing ONS asymptomatic testing for the past 6 months and will continue to do so whilst the vaccine rollout concludes and well into the next year. So that has been covering the need for the data of levels of prevalence, and going forward will also show if those that have been vaccinated can still test positive/transmit. Wherever there is a high prevalence they quickly set up mass testing centres, this has now been happening for months.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑05 Apr 2021, 11:32We are in the middle of the largest mass vaccination ever undertaken in this country.

Given that these are going to be 'on the spot' lateral flow tests, there is a high chance that much of the data will never find it's way back to the authorities - they get far more reliable and accurate data from the ONS PCR tests that they are currently doing in huge numbers each week.
There's also the issue with people not wanting to test/not seeing the point. No news is good news/ignorance is bliss type of thinking.
Anyone wanting a test can get one at any time now. I don't see the uptake on this being that big.
It will be as useful as one of those DIY alcohol tests for drink driving.

Royal Mail have been offering lateral flow testing in Sheffield for a while ( see latest courier mag) but to my knowledge have not rolled it out.
I wonder why?
