Poacher turned Game keeper
In our unit an Opg has turned to the dark side and has started as a trainee manager, is there a policy in place that would prevent that Opg from working in the same unit as they were before?

However most trainee managers end up as cover managers and get punted from office to office anyway.

Re: Poacher turned Game keeper
I would have thought there would have been a Company Policy to exclude OPGs from Managing the Unit they used to work in before. Because the staff wouldn't have any Respect for them. But I know there isn't as that's a sensible idea.
Then I thought ..... Lack of Respect? ........ Who am I kidding
Another Failed Postman that thinks it's easier to Manage than to actually work! In my experience I've not met a single Born Again DOM that was actually any good at being a Postie. They were all workshy idlers .... but that's just my personal opinion.

Any OPG who went into management that came back to ours never lasted too long before moving elsewhere. I can't imagine it would have been easy to work in an environment where people knew each other a bit too well.

Re: Poacher turned Game keeper
Managers are humans too.
Ive known 3 opg turned managers that have came back to lead us. One was an old timer....last i heard he was on sick leave but probably retired now.
Other two started after me and are young-ish. Still get on with them & have a chat when they pop in to manager us. One floats between different offices and couldnt give a damn as its not his budget.
The floater wanted me to do abc on "special shift" xyz.
Both were the easiest shifts i've ever done in RM but no way was i going to do abc when i down for xyz. Phoned the union guy up & he blew a gasket, told me not to touch abc....that was not was agreed for xyz. The manager still winds me up when he visits asking if i'm going to go crying to the union.
Another guy has passed the manager interview but still not moved up yet. Its been over 6 months and he doesnt think anything with him will happen until after the revisions.

Re: Poacher turned Game keeper
That should be reported to the branch.
Manager is not a CWU represented grade.
Why the office is accepting it is another matter.

In my Branch Area there's 21 Delivery Offices. During the last Annual Nominations 50% of those DOs didn't even bothyer to put an applicant forward.
TBH I find that pathetic. We all know how Posties like a good moan, and think they've got the Hardest Duty in the Office, but those same Posties can't be bothered to "Put their Money where their Mouth is"!

They'll be a floater anyway. That said, our office runs best when one of the linos is a former postie that knows the duties. The walks that need extra resourcing actually get it as oppose to the biggests mouths and moaners. How the hell can somebody manage an office if they ain't got a clue what's what in terms of walks ect.superdazzy wrote: ↑31 Mar 2021, 20:15In our unit an Opg has turned to the dark side and has started as a trainee manager, is there a policy in place that would prevent that Opg from working in the same unit as they were before?

Re: Poacher turned Game keeper
AFAIK they can be sent to any RM office, anywhere at any time. I believe we've occasionally had managers sent up north to cover stuff in other officesSeymour Buts wrote: ↑02 Apr 2021, 17:31They'll be a floater anyway. Re: Poacher turned Game keeper
That's such a dumb point of view it's hardly worth applause.
The "problem" with an OPG moving into management in their own office is two fold.
The first is that the members now have to worry about any personal issues they may have had with this manager resurfacing now that they are in a position of power.
The second concerns the fact that some members may know personal details about or have a relationship with this manager that may compromise their ability to manage effectively or fairly.
That's why the business prefers where possible to move people out of their original office.

Re: Poacher turned Game keeper
The vast majority of our managers in our office are ex postman from our unit, including the Dom.
Maybe thats why it;s so badly run.
The term poacher turned game keeper up here means a union rep who has turned to the dark side.
