Seniority

Hi,

There is a revision going on in our office with a re-pick scheduled to happen around October time this year.

I worked at Royal Mail from March 2011 to February 2017 and I left the business but then returned in September 2019.

Does past service count when considering seniority or would it just go off from when I returned in September 2019?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I doubt any previous employment will count in any situation.

I did exactly the same as you and unfortunately if your gap of employment with royal mail is over 6 months you will lose your seniority.

There's not even a six month rule.
It's completely discretionary and only in extremely rare circumstances.
Previous service only counts for holiday entitlement.

ah ok i only said about the 6 month thing because someone at our office was allowed to keep their seniority due to the union rep successfully arguing that they had only been out of the business for less than 6 months. Had no idea it was down to special circumstances. What those could be i have no idea.

In our office I’ve found seniority is only used if you allow it, challenge it & it’s out the window.

I know of one case where a member left for a short period of time to take care of their terminally ill partner.
Compassionate grounds, that sort of thing.
