Been offered 35 hours from 30
Have been offered increase in hours from 30 to 35 I joined back in September. I see many posties sorting the Mail into the pidgeon holes and look like they can do it blindfolded. Same goes for packets into mini Yorks and tracked. My concern is I have not a clue where various postcodes are, thus putting wrong packets in wrong yorks and wrong Mail in wrong pidgeon holes. This I fear will be very frustrating for posties throwing off their frame, parcels and tracked to find heap loads of misssorts, and feel like l have let many colleagues down. How can I overcome this fear? Would my sorting office supply a list of postcodes, roads, to match up with the York numbers, in a hope to review and memorise at home?
Any advice greatly received. Thank you

You may not be doing primary sorting of mail and parcels, more likely you'll be doing prep on the walk that you are on.

You get training.
Up above your head is a list of what goes where.
At first you will be very slow and then you will get quicker until it will look like you too can do it blindfolded.
Don't stress.

Just take your time. It takes a while but you will look up what job a road is on a couple of times then you won’t have to look anymore. The more duty’s you have covered in a postcode area also helps. Then there’s a revision and u have to start learning again haha

I find the folk who moan the most about the sorting are the ones who never do it, Mate were all human we all make mistakes just ignore the moaners, Ive had folk come up and throw letters at me shouting wrong into my face, when you ask them where does it go then? I dunno but its not mine is the normal answer.

Everyone started the same mate.
We all had to learn the sortation in the primary and walk prep, so don't worry.
No one came into the job with all the knowledge in place, we all had to start at a slow pace and your workmates will know this too.

Congrats on the 35 hours!
Don't worry at bout the sorting, you'll get decent at it. If you're really concerned about learning it ask to be put on as many duties as possible. Quickest way to learn it. Even when ya do know it you'll put stuff in wrong one by mistake like the one underneath it or above it

As mentioned above, the best way to learn the sorting is by doing as many rounds as possible. Don't stress about it mate, giving someone a few missorts isn't the end of the world.

You might have to adopt a new nickname for a while. “Stevie wonder” has been on the sorting again. Lol

They put my hours up from 30 to 35 years ago and I've been on the sorting only a handful of times for a few minutes when were all told to go on after some extremely busy days. Normally I would prep an extra walk or walk the big parcels.

In our office only full time posties are allowed on sorting, they reckon it’s a union rule, plus they get in early everyday.

definitely offer to learn ips as it gives you extra chance at early overtime, honestly if the duggy boards above are up to date the after a week or 2 you'll know most, any missorts we are heckled which is fun
i found it easier to spend time throwing in the sequenced boxes 1st for a week then go on ips

If you do go on parcels or IPS, ignore the looks you get for being slow and remind them that they were once as slow as you when they first started.
