Customer query : Can anyone shed light on the current policy about scanning RM48 and 2nd Class small parcels?

Post by POSTMAN »

From a regular customer on the site in the customer forum...
Can anyone shed light on the current policy about scanning RM48 and 2nd Class small parcels?

On-line selling businesses are finding that less than 5% of parcels are being scanned on delivery and this is prompting buyers to claim they have not received the parcel. With no proof of delivery, this means that, under Ebay rules, the Seller must refund the Buyer.

Are there not enough scanners in use?
Have RM given up scanning because of covid?
Any other reason?

Would be helpful if some of you could pop over there.

Also peeps, don't be shy to pop over there now and again to help the regulars on there, cheers.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

There is no tracking or proof of delivery on those products. They'd need to add the signed for option to get the proof of delivery. I think the doorstep scanning for the 2 products given is just for internal use.

This isn't right for Click and Drop items, where you print your postage at home or take a QR code on your phone into a Callers Office. If they are dropped off at a Callers Office, an acceptance scan is done on the PDA. Then, if the delivering postie does things right, the item will be scanned on their PDA as delivered on delivery.

For eBay users, they can print their postage label from the eBay site and a short "tracking number" is added to the seller portal on the seller's eBay account. When than item is delivered, if the 2D barcode is scanned, the item will then show up as delivered on the seller portal (and will also show up as delivered on the buyer's purchased items list on eBay. So, there is proof of delivery. You can also check it has been delivered if you put that tracking number into the Track and Trace section of the Royal Mail webiste or app.

Signed For is a little different, as if that's done properly on delivery, then there's proof of RECEIPT at the address, not just proof of delivery.

However, it's NOT the same as fully Tracked items, which should get multiple scans at various points as it passes through the network.

I stand corrected. Does this only apply if the items are taken into an enquiry office to enter the system?

I'm assuming if people take such an item into a Post Office and hand it in at the counter, they do an Acceptance Scan ( or whatever the Post Office equivalent might be). Can anyone confirm?

Next time I do a print at home label, I'll take it into the enquiry office, rather than just dropping it into the sleeve with my collected mail, and see if it reports in the app with a delivery scan.
