Cycling out to duty ?
I’ve been a postie at ######### DO for nearly 10 years and feel I need to ask other posties does this happen where they are, we currently have two blokes who do their duties as van shares but instead of travelling in the van they cycle to the first delivery point then cycle to the next loop and so on. Surely this shouldn’t be done like this as if an accident occurred who’s responsible, also at the end of duty they don’t come back to office they just give their PDA’s to their colleague and go home ? Also why is the union rep who also is the area rep letting this happen?

no you cant use your bike to travel out to your delivery and your rep should be aware of that , contact your h+s rep that will stop it .

Re: Cycling out to duty ?
Can postmen use cycles to convey to their first point of delivery or on delivery?
No cycles should be used to covey, transport, travel anywhere on delivery or to delivery points unless it is part of an approved RMG duty Structure

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You talking to yourself now?
The litle voice in my head says it's the businesses job to get a non driver out to their walk.

Re: Cycling out to duty ?
The reason you can't is because the business has nothing in place to ensure that your bike is roadworthy and safe and not just a pile of junk.
Back in the day when the business used bikes they were supposed to be checked on a regular basis by the guy in the office who was trained to assess and repair the bikes.
Even in those days you were not allowed to use your own bike on delivery so it's a consistent business policy that makes sense. Nowt ridiculous about it.

I'm with you. It's daft. I don't have a car but fortunately I drive so it isn't an issue.
But I cycle to work in a morning. So if I'm starting at home and cycling to the beginning of the duty what the hell is the difference

Re: Cycling out to duty ?
What about when im cycling to work? They don't have anything in place then either, I'm leaving my home, to one place and that's it. Zero difference with people who are cycling from home to their first loop if that's where their work time is beginning, before that isn't anything to do with Royal mail. Don't wanna go into massively thats just my opinion on it, its not actually an issue for meBahia Feliz wrote: ↑14 Mar 2021, 18:38The reason you can't is because the business has nothing in place to ensure that your bike is roadworthy and safe and not just a pile of junk.

Re: Cycling out to duty ?
If you are travelling directly to your start point there isn't a difference, that would be acceptable but you would have to leave your bike at your first delivery point until you were finished. But I cycle to work in a morning. So if I'm starting at home and cycling to the beginning of the duty what the hell is the difference
However that is not what the OP is discussing.
Travelling from the DO to your first delivery point and continuing to use your bike during delivery is what is not allowed.currently have two blokes who do their duties as van shares but instead of travelling in the van they cycle to the first delivery point then cycle to the next loop and so on.

Re: Cycling out to duty ?
you can use a cycle to and from work
not during rm withdrew all cycle duties
you go out on a cycle during duty your not insured
if you come of cycle during duty and suffered injury you would not receive sick pay as it would be your fault
