If anything, we would deliver parcels and leave letters in my office if we had to, apart from NHS letters.

Re: 6 days letter obligation , 5 day parcel obligation ?
More likely to be packets only on a Saturday as it was last summer for a few weeks , our DOM has already floated the idea of reverting back to 5 day week as a way of making savings.
The senior postie's jumped on the Monday to Friday option , we are on a 2 in 6 option so for some the loss of a day every 6 weeks wasn't much of an option when it came to a Saturday off every week .

Combined with the new "delayed mail" product, could we potentially see all DSA mech, manual letters and flats being processed in MCs on Friday night or maybe during the day Saturday and then DOs getting it all for delivery on Mondays?

I appears like, in conjunction with the table top revisions, the first major change will be moving the evening collection of postboxes back to the walks for collection during the day. That would leave smaller numbers of evening collections to collect from businesses, post offices, & postboxes outside post offices.
After that it will be the new version of the old ' dead mail ' concept followed by a five day operation with possible full shutdown on Saturdays. This will enable a £1500 per annum pay decrease in offices where the RRIS payment is currently paid to staff.
Cheers to the union and all the idiots who voted yes to the pay agreement.

Recruitment and Retention Incentive Scheme.
I'm not sure how it's relevant here though.

There's no way that there'd be a complete shutdown on Saturdays. There'll still be parcel, Tracked and SD deliveries on SaturdaysCelgar wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 11:03I appears like, in conjunction with the table top revisions, the first major change will be moving the evening collection of postboxes back to the walks for collection during the day. It's a common misconception but non-voters are irrelevant because you can't assign them a yes or a no. For all we know they may have all voted to accept the offer.Chelseablue wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 11:27And all those in the union who didnt bother to vote , no point in being in union if you dont vote. Re: 6 days letter obligation , 5 day parcel obligation ?
I can't see how it can be economically viable to do that as everything would still have to be up & running so there would be negligible cost savings. RM already make an additional charge to deliver SDs on a Saturday as it is. Given that RM have returned to the mantra of the operation only being viable if letters are delivered together with the parcels. Ofcom stated the saving from the new 'dead mail' concept would not be enough savings . If post-Covid people go back to the high street instead of staying with online options then RM will be looking for more savings. A full five day operation, or an 'every other day' delivery system would bring the savings required. Personally I think the people will not return to the high street post-Covid and we are potentially unfortunately entering a world hospitality eg pubs, gigs, festivals etc will not be returning.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 11:30There's no way that there'd be a complete shutdown on Saturdays. When that new D+4 service comes in, then most days there won't be any letters or flats for the vast majority of DPs. Depending on when they enter the system then RM might not be able to completely axe Saturdays.
If RM went to every other day for letters and flats then that would give non-drivers the choice of starting to drive for RM if they want to stay full time or going part time. What would they do on days when there's no deliveries of flats and letters?

Re: 6 days letter obligation , 5 day parcel obligation ?
An every other day system is the worst possible scenario. It would results in probably result in over 40% of the staff being made redundant. Therefore to my mind if post Covid the public return to the high street the least destructive option is a full five day operation with no activity on Saturdays.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 11:55Celgar wrote: ↑07 Mar 2021, 11:47I can't see how it can be economically viable to do that as everything would still have to be up & running so there would be negligible cost savings. PS It is irrelevant whether posties cannot or refuse to drive vans in this scenario. The staff that can or are willing to drive would be kept on and the others would be made redundant.

You're doing it again. If RM went to every other day for letters and flats then that would give non-drivers the choice of starting to drive for RM if they want to stay full time or going part time.
RM won't and can't do this.
There will be at least 5 day letters delivery for the foreseeable future. Ofcom's own report says that. How big an impact D+4 will have depends on the take up but a lot of DSA customers like the banks, advertisers and utility companies might not want that unless there's a huge cost difference.
Even with that impact the most likely outcome is larger deliveries covering wider areas but you're still time limited.
Stop fussing over non drivers, they're a very small piece of the equation.
