I had that before, got back 20 minutes early was asked to go do 3 parcels. I just agreed and took them.....for a drive to the street then brought them back so I could finish on my time. Never happened again. Like you say an hour early Is fair game but 10 to 20 minutes is them making a point/being awkward so it's only fair to repay the favour

Our office is a shambles, short staffed and lapsing every day, if you can’t complete you’re told to take the lapsing but cut off your own round but just make sure tracked and NHS letters are done. The days of finishing early are gone.

Can't see your problem. On one hand you profess to be busy, while on the other you say you get back early. Which is it? If you're busy how do you get back early?Sprattacus wrote: ↑03 Mar 2021, 17:41Just wanted to get a quick feel of some other offices and see if its same as ours :)
Understaffed like I know most are. We've been lapsing since Christmas pressure, every day without fail. Same everywhere else? I KNOW there's no rule that says to take it, just annoys me they have the nerve to put it on us. (and then say we have to tell them if we can't do it, and they'll come to our frame and assess whether they think this is the case).
Also getting sent out on Phase 3 if coming back 'early'. Today arrived back about 20 minutes to time. Whilst clearing stuff away get told need to go and deliver more parcels. Same happening at other offices? Is this my fault, do I really need to just wait before driving back so I don't get sent out again?
Walks haven't been assessed in however long. Hammered this week on letters, parcels, heavy and large. Now doing extras like wiping vans, customer collections, covid kits. And on top of the additional physical toll on body, you're sent out if you come back 10 minutes too early. Fine if you're coming back an hour early and it's a piss easy day but come on...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Still lapsing? Sent out when getting back? How much is too much?
this stuff isnt hard, just use some common sense.
Just understand you WILL be working all your hours, theres no incentive to "rush" like there used to be.
So you either "rush" around get your own delivery and lapsing and maybe finish on time, or do your job properly, take your breaks, do your vehicle checks, observe all safety rules, scan every packet, every letter, deliver to neighbours where appropriate and whatever else you can think of, I doubt you`ll get back early or have time for lapsing.
If you do come back 20 minutes early and they want to send you back out, then point out how by the time you get keys, load van and get anywhere close to where the packages are the 20 mins will be well and truly up - 20 minutes isnt enough time to do anything once youre at the office except maybe some errands that are indoors.

We never get sent back out to be honest, we are a small office though. We’re often finished before time as well or about on time on busier days. If manager asks to lapse then generally people leave a bit off the end of the round for example, or complete both and book the Overtime if needed

Many of the selfish people in our office think if they get done and get round and get home, the office won’t ring them up at home to get them back in to complete their hours and finish off some failed deliveries,I kid you not!and so it goes on

If people finish too early too often then they'll just get more DPs added to their walks

Both finishing early ,by 20 mins and 10 mins. My question again, how can you say you're busy but finish 20 and 10 mins early?POSTMAN wrote: ↑03 Mar 2021, 22:32Read his post again, one was 20 mins and the other 10.rambo1 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2021, 21:42Can't see your problem. Re: Still lapsing? Sent out when getting back? How much is too much?
assuming not everyone has a van to themselves, what happens if a guy who's walked/bussed it out also gets back 20mins early?
is the 1 with the van made to work their full time whilst the other hops in their car and goes home?
also are those who start from home working their full hours and do those who take a van home work their full hours too?
some get away with it and some don't, i usually fall in the latter

Generally take the lapsing and book overtime to do it, unless a walk hasnt gone out for 2 days.

If you are booking overtime to do lapsing, then it isn't lapsing...2yearpostie wrote: ↑04 Mar 2021, 16:40Generally take the lapsing and book overtime to do it, unless a walk hasnt gone out for 2 days.
