Union rep being dom support?

Post by Hugh man of ggr »

Hi all. Just a quick question. Our union rep has made himself dom support as our old one stepped down. The position wasn't advertised (we've been told it will in the next revision). Anyway since this appointment he has constantly sided with the manager and even has the manager asking him what to do. Just wondering if this is a conflict of interest? Is it allowed for a rep to hold this position? Its creating a big problem for those that he doesn't like, ie the workers. Thanks for any input.

Dom Support isn't a supervisory position. He has no authority over the staff.

Doesn't sound like an ideal situation Hugh. :no no

I'm no expert but what about giving the CWU Area Office a ring. I don't expect they're even aware of the situation. You could even ask them about how to vote in a Replacement Rep if he's upset so many people. :cuppa

It's an admin role that goes back to the old days when everything was paper based and the DOM was more hands on with the actual supervision of the operation.

In this day and age with the number of line managers floating around and the fact that everything is just a click away on the system it's laughable that it's still a job to "support" a delivery office manager.

The management and support structure in most delivery offices is probably the most bloated and inefficient area of the business (as well as being incredibly ineffective).

Businesses outside RM would piss themselves laughing if they knew.

Hope there’s Union rep election coming soon, can show your disapproval by voting him out.
Union rep where I work seems to feel it’s his role to smooth through the decisions of the managers, rather than support the members.

Thanks for the replies. He manages to stay rep as he keeps a cliq of mates on his side. He makes sure they have an easy life and very rarely delivers. If anyone goes against him they always end up in a bad situation. Something that I'm currently in.

Our support man when I left looked after his mates, worked whatever hours he wanted and thought he ran the place. Had a couple of "discussions" with him about workload, not a bad lad but had ideas above his statiion.
